Ok i did some research on this tread but i still didnt really see what i wanted to know. I basically have a stock 97 gst spyder, and i want to get an exhaust system. I dont want to have a big problem when i go to do the emissions test, but what i heard was that the only way they would need to do the emissions is if my check engine light is on. SO the question is if i just get a cat back system which is from the cat back right? i wont have any problem? And will i feel a difference in power? or would i have to get rid of the cat too to actually get somthing out of this? I was looking at this system, is it any good?

but if i just got that wouldnt i still be restricted by the size of my down pipe? can anyone give me some advice as to what to get...what to leave on the car?

one more thing i saw something pluged into the exhaust after the cat...im assuming its the o2 senor, if i got that cat back system does it have a spot to plug the 02 in?

First that is not a real GReddy exhaust. it is a TSUDO (greddy type). I have a 97 GST and I put a Helix 3" DP and GReddy EVO2 catback. No check engine light, and here in Texas all cars have to pass emissions and I did fine. Not to mention it sounds B-E-A-utiful.

Yes the catback is designed to start at the cat and back. You will notice some gain but the most will come after you install a DP to go with it. You could go to your local muffler shop buy a muffler and have them make you a custom exhaust if you'd like, it might be cheaper too. Just some food for thought.

I recently just bought a thermal R&D 3" catback and love it. It sounds a little louder than stock at idle and great at higher RPM's. Yes you will see gains the turbo will spool a little sooner but i also installed greddy hard pipes at the same time. When you buy I recommend you go 3" you won't regret it.

I wrote a review of the Tsudo exhaust here. As mentioned above, your cat stays. You can always replace it with a high-flow unit later when you replace your down pipe. Installation is easy with basic tools and ability. It does have a bung for the O2 sensor.

This is my 2nd post supporting this. I spent about 200 bucks at a local muffler shop (120ish to bend pipes and 80ish for a muffler) and i love the way my car sounds. I wouldn't trade it for name brand even if it were free.

Edit: Also keep in mind, if you go to a muffler shop to have it done, it will be done that day. No waiting on parts to arrive (unless you order a muffler they don't have in stock), or hassle of getting your exhaust in that huge back seat to haul to them to install ;).

First off whats your price range? If that doesnt matter then just do what im doing. Go buy a downpipe. Find a local exhaust place to build you an exhaust. Put the Downpipe in. You can have the guy flange it to where you can put a test pipe in and switch the cat in for emissions, or since emissions is only like once every two years you could just take your downpipe (which replaces old dp and stock cat) out and put both the old dp and old cat back in for emissions. Just remember piping is piping. All will give you basically the same power, only difference usually is sound(and youll never sound like a stupid civic so dont worry about that). The total will cost you probably anywhere from 250-400 if you do it my way. Good luck!

Here's what I did - bought the same catback and then bought a 3 inch ebay downpipe, tsuedo also The downpipe was a cat eliminator and started out at 2.5 inch expanded to 3 inch after the flex section and then went back down to 2.75 for the rear flange. Bought a 3 inch Magnaflow high flow Cat, cut the pipe and welded it in. I asked the place that does my inspection and they said as long as it looks like a cat and I can pass the tailpipe snif test - its good enough. The catback is a direct replacement and has the O2 bung gaskets and bolts.

Total cost, downpipe, magnaflow cat, catback, under $400
