I'm working on rebuilding a 91 gst Fwd, and replace both the axles a while ago with remanufactured axles from autozone, due to bad cv joints. I just recently put fluid in the tranny and noticed that the lh axle seal was leaking a little fluid. I then noticed that the axle was not completely seated against the seal at the transmission output on the drivers side. So I jacked up the lh suspension to make the axle lvl (car is up on blocks for the rebuild), and then tapped on the axle at the wheel end and it slid into the tranny about and 1" further. However now the axle appears to be to short on the wheel side as it is about 1" away from the wheel bearing seal. I compared the remanufactured axle lengths to the orignals (which I had to give to the store so now can't recompare) when I orignally bought them. Is it possible that I got the wrong axle, or could something else be wrong? Again this is for a FWD. When I searched for this it seemed people had some problems getting the fwd axles for their awd's, but I didn't find any problems of the axle only being 1" short. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Post a picture. If you purchased by proper application you should be ok. You did ok by making sure the inner one seated all the way. When you reinstall your lower ball joint it will set the proper distance between the spindle and the transaxle. If you do indeed have the right axle then everything else should be ok.

If not sure, have a pro check it out. Better safe than sorry. Also, a friendly reminder. Use safety equipment always.

Good Luck
