My question is that i noticed on the stock set up, that between the rubber piping on the intake and the actaull filter box there is another square box that has an electronic plug hooked up and if i got this new intake would that box be there or would i have to take that out? or what would happen with it..?

The square box you're referring to is your MAF. It adapts to the oval end of the intake pipe you linked to with a 4" silicone coupler.

In the intake world, a pipe is a pipe, and they are all pretty much created equal unless they don't fit. The square box with a plug is your MAF. This intake replaces your rubber snorkel and stock air box, keeping the MAF in it's current place. You need a functional MAF in order for the car to run.

I see this is your first post... welcome to tuners and please search before asking next time. Questions like this have been answered millions of times.

Edit: Damn... got up for the bathroom and Andy beat me to the punch.

Well since it says jdm on te item description, then it must be good:p . Ebay intakes will work fine, I've always used them and never had a problem. the rest of your q's have already been answered so... welcome to tuners.

Thanks for the info guys....sorry if this was answered a million times...new to the sight ill get the hang of it LOL:D

All you have to remember here is: Read the FAQs/Rules, do your boost leak tests, recirculate your BOV, check your turbo for shaft play, keep oil, coolant, and gas in their respective containers, and try to research/search before you ask a question. Get all that down and you're sure to be an experienced DSM'er in no time. :) Welcome to the best DSM site on the internet.

I have one of those. The only thing that is more of a hassle then a problem is where the recirculating inlet is. I believe on the stock pipe and on a few aftermarket pipes(dejon tool) the inlet is closer down on the pipe. Where this is located i have a little bit more trouble then i should getting a recirculating tube on there since my bov is about 3-4 inches from it. Other then that its been a good one for me.

I just did an extensive review/install on these injen style intakes..

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237864

during my submissions it seems like the pictures didn't go through, i will reup them once im back at home, it shold be done by the end of next weekend. there are a few things you should know while installing these intakes, i think i clearly stated everything that should be known..

for the price though,, its great. compared to the injen that is. it does not apply for people running bigger turbos as they would need a bigger intake pipe to fit the compressor housing.

i went with the gear 3 inch intake, it cost me like $35shipped off ebay works nice and great, after the install you can hear the turbo spool alot better and when the bov recirculates its alot louder. let me see if i have a picture of it and i will post it.

Says who? I keep mine all in one container with spouts at different levels. They're all different weight liquids so they separate out quite nicely. It saves lots of space in the garage.

Here's a difference that's often overlooked.

Make sure the MAF adapter has a smooth, rounded enterance into the MAF. If you get a cheap intake with a crappy adapter, it will have a squared off enterance that can cause very choppy MAF readings.

when i had my 2g. i used a RRE intake pipe and just hose clampd it to my snorkly by the MAF and it workd GREAT. i loved it.. too bad RRE dont make em for 1g's... im not sure what im going to go with on my 1g.. its still pretty stock just picked it up.. working on oil leaks right now.

ROFL

Actually, I was referring to the containers in the car: i.e. the gas tank, oil pan, and radiator. I've heard that if the oil and coolant mix, for example, it's probably not good. :D

just as everyone else said one intake is just as good as another one. but that still doesnt mean that you should cheap out on anything....even though its only an intake do it right the first time

Here is a picture of my 3 inch gear intake, you have to cut and resize the recirculation hose but it becomes almost a straight shot.

damn im sry but that thing is UGLY.. i would NOT put that in my car..

MAYBE if i painted it a diff color and changed that yellow hose.

How do you connect the MAF and filter if its just a straight pipe? Wouldn't that just run into the fender?

im sure you have to keep your 2g MAS and stick it on the end of that where the BOV enters. that would be my guess.. i still think that things UGLY.

Used in blow-through setup, I'm sure it would work great, especially if it relocated the filter in a position closer to the fender well, not the stock air filter location.
