I think I have been driving with a torn CV boot on the FL. There is greese slathered everywhere behind the rim. I have driven like this for the past 4 days, does anyone think possible foreign objects have damaged my cv joint yet?

you should be fine. as long as the cv joint is not making a clicking noise it is still okay. it will take alot longer than 4 days with a ripped boot to ruin the joint. either remove the axle and replace the boot or buy a new axle. i bought a pair of new front axles for $65.

just don't buy one of those wrap around boots though, take off the axle and clean it all out, then repack with grease and reboot.

n4g63: When did the boots tear? Just the past 4 days? When's the last time you physically looked at the boots and ensured they weren't torn?

I talked to a guy at the store about the quick boots (the two pieces you glue together so you don't have to take anything off), he said they weren't worth it because they don't last too long. You can search around to see what other's think, just thought I'd add that because I've been looking to fix my CV joints too.

Although, my CV's are clicking already and the boots are fine. Weird.

2 for $65 eh? care to elaborate? :sneaky:

my joint is starting to make the noise that joints make... : (
I just bought a new boot, not the easy-install kind. Im a noob, is this something I should leave to some one else? I also bought some more greese to lube up.
