I just recieved my motor Specs listed below. I am running DSMLINK and the motor came with no sensors except 1 off the back of the block (in middle)?. I want to install it but i need to know what sensors i will need to have it running, while the motor is out. My concern is timing belt area where i wont be able to get to. The pic i have is exactly what it looks like except the fidanza cam gears.. Do any sensors go here? My 7 bolt has 2 sensors i believe one is the crank position sensor and another is by the cam gears up top.. Any info would be appreciated so i can get her in asap..

Note: Looking at the 7-bolt and the 6-bolt side by side the sensors (1-by the crankshaft and 1- by the cam gears/sprocket) that are on the 7-bolt do not have the same mounting spot on the 6-bolt. so i dont know where they can go unless i have to get diff ones or none are needed at all..This is my dilema of what and where. Thanks

So the other day I was chilling at my house with both my 1g and 2g parked in the driveway when there came a knock upon my door. I got up to see who it was and it was a guy I have never seen before. I knew the look on his face though he had the "my dsm is sticking it up my a$$" look. I was then reassured of that when the first words out of his mouth were, " I see you have two dsm's here." So he tells me this story about how he bought a 95 turbo talon from a guy with the motor half pulled out of it. He got a good deal and rebuilt it him self but he cant get it to start. I told him I would help him and off to his house I went. We popped the hood and he told me about these two connectors on his harness that He could not find a sensor for. One is a 3 wire rectangle sensor on the passenger side of the motor and one is a triangle connector on the drivers side. Well I noticed that there was no cam sensor on the passenger side of the motor and I asked him about it and he said that the cam sensor was under the intake cam gear. I know on my 1g that I have a big round thing on the passenger side ans I see a bracket on his motor where the cam sensor should go. I have not messed with the 2g turbos so I didnt want to lie to him. Anyway there is a sensor under his cam gear but I think he is missing both his cam sensor and his crank sensor. What is the sensor under the cam gear? it looks like a crank angle sensor but isn't that to high up for that? Thanks guys.

If you're careful, you can solder wire leads on them that lead to bullet type connectors. I had to do this when I put a 97 Cam Angle Sensor on my 1G head. If you're not confident enough to do it, you could easily find an electrician who could for a minimal fee (or free if you give him some beer).

The 95-96 Cam Angle Sensor is mounted under the Intake Cam Gear. There is a plate on the gear that it reads. The Crank Angle Sensor is mounted down by the crankshaft on the driver side of the engine (Timing Belt area). Hope this helps a little bit.

My delima is what sensors are on the 6-bolt`s. Yes there are two sensors one is by the crankshaft - CPS (CRANK POSITION SENSOR) and the other is up top by the cam gears..then you have the A/C ..Coil plug.. To give you an idea what sensors/plugs are in that general area. Do you know if the 1g motors have these same sensors..?

I couldn't tell you about a 1G, I've only worked on 2G's. Sorry, my engine is a Frankenstein.

The middle Sensor on the back of the block is the Knock Sensor. On a 6 bolt, there are no sensors by the T-belt, However, on a 7bolt there are two sensors, there is a cam angle sensor, which is located just behind the intake cam gear. The other sensor on a 7 bolt is the crank angle sensor which is down be the crank sprocket. Neither of these two sensors will be used on your six bolt, as a six bolt uses a cam angle sensor that is located on the left had side of the valve cover. It attaches to the intake cam.

Edit: I just realized that you have a 97. So if you have a 97 7 bolt, you already have a cam angle sensor similar to the 6 bolt cam angle sensors. But I do not belive that your 97 CAS will work on 6 bolt. I don't know too much about the later 7 bolts...

Anyone with more info please chime if I'm wrong on any of this!

AWESOME.. I was thinking that there wasn't one due to the mounts not being there ect, but the re-assurance is a great thing..Thank you! Are you familiar with the oil housing.. the housing has 2 huge an fittings that i believe went to a oil cooler and a smaller an fitting probably to the turbo.. Do you have an idea what these would be and if i should plug them or do an external oil cooler setup...Funds are extremely low!

EDIT - 6-bolt swap i will have to customize the harness to make it work..

Depends... what year motor is it? 90? or 91-92?
91-99 I belive all have the same exact filter housing. If its a 91 or 92, those lines are for the water oil cooler. Do not cap them off, as they are needed to route coolant into the filter housing to cool the oil.

If its a 90 motor, they have and air-to-air oil cooler, and somone else is going to have to step in for this one as Im not sure how they are set up...

If you are unsure what year it is, post a pic and I'll be better able to help you:thumb:

Leet you are a helpful dude thanks. So I guess he has a cam sensor. I dont think he has the crank sensor. The car wont fire without a crank sensor right? It looks like it should go under the harmonic balancer pulley right? So my next question has to be what do you think the 3 wire rectangular conector on the passanger side goes to?

weird... when I posted my posts. I was the only person who posted other than the starter of the thread.. .I come back five minutes later, and there are 7 more... some befor mine, and some after.... weird...
