So i've been fighting this for about 3-4 months now, I ported the wastegate flapper and it still creeps from 13psi to 16psi. I'm getting sick of it and just found a 1g exhaust manifold with a fitting already made for a 38mm external wastegate on it, i'm thinking of just ditching the interal wastegate, for a external would it be hard to do? Car is stock other than the 3inch turboback, open air filter, and MBC. it's a 93 TSI AWD. Any write-ups on changing wastegates?

The 1G BOVs cant handle 14+psi if memory serves me, unless you "crush" it, there are a couple different versions of crushing it of course going into that would be :beatentodeath: . Don the problem with 16psi on the stock fuel system would be needing a fp upgrade, or if you go more then 18psi, you need to upgrade to 550cc injectors, I think thats what your talking about...right?

You can have the wastegate off the manifold, just weld the flapper door shut, as Dustin said. Either that, or you can use the same manifold you have now, take the flapper door completely out, and run the external wastegate off the o2 housing. You can but special o2 housings made for this configuration:

Taing the flapper door off and going with that SBR set-up would be a good idea, no need to buy another 1G exhaust mani. just because it has a flange for a wg on it. That SBR set-up looks real nice, and will sound real mean when that wg opens up and dumps to the atmosphere.

No
The 1g bov can handle over 18psi:thumb: The 2g bov cant handle more than 14psi.

Yes, that's what I was getting at. I wasn't sure if the 14B would be flowing enough to max out the components at that level. Of course, I would never recommend attempting to find this out without a logger, but it just might be more practical to go easy on it until upgrading the fuel system to handle the extra boost, and not worrying about an external setup. That is, of course, unless you want to run 13 psi until the day you die.

You should have a logger. If you get a logger, you can see if 16psi is a problem. If it isn't, you just need to set your MBC to 16 and "suffer" more hp.

Oh yeah good call on that one my bad, 2g BOVs leak at 15psi, and 1g's leak at 22 psi...of course both those #s are respectively give to within a few psi.
