I have a 91 Tsi with a possibly bad ecu. It runs very rich at idle to the point where it won't go anywhere. Once the rpm's get over the 1000 the car runs fine. The idle does surge a little but not a biggie. I removed the ecu (deduced this from searching threads) and noticed it has been remanufactured. It looks suspect to me and was hoping for some expertise from those of you who know. It looks burned/rusty in some areas. Thanks for your help. Also, could I swap the ecu from my '95 gsx....?

No your '95 ECU isn't going to work very well, it doesn't plug in to start and you would need to swap a few parts even after you made an adaptor.

I'm sorry but your pictures are too far out of focus to tell anything other than you have a typical low quality rebuilt ECU. I wouldn't be surprised if it was causing problems but if it's running rich at idle I'd check the O2 sensor operation first. How do you know it's running rich?

Is your check engine light on?

couldnt view the picture, guess one would need a yahoo acct, to answer your last question, no you cant use a 2g 95 gsx ecu in a 1g 91 tsi.

There is a reason I answered the way I did, some people ran 95 2G EPROM ECUs in their 1G before the 1G version of DSMLink came out. It's not trivial but it can be done.

Thanks for your help... This ecu is definately no good... I am scared to get a remanufactured as this one looks like a hack job... Hopefully get lucky at the junkyard...
