Best manual tranny fluid?

What should i Get

I want somthing that basically restores the gears,synchros, etc, somthing for older transmissions ( one with 107k miles)

Somthing that best improves shifting, stops grinding, etc

i was stuck between these

BG synchro shift, redline manual tranny fluid, synergyn syngear II

They al say the same stuff, but which one has anyone had experience with?

Like if ## car was hard to get into a gear, or it grinded, what fluid did u put in that stopped it?

or which fluid did u notice made a difference over the oem fluid

SHEP recommends Penzoil SynchroMesh on his website, so if he recommends it for his trannys i am pretty sure it will be good enough for a stocker

I had a 91 Talon TSi with aronud 60,000 miles on it when I bought it. I always hard a hard time getting it into 1st gear when coming to a stop. A transmission shop told me I would have to replace the synchro to have it fixed. I put BG Synchroshift in and it smoothed out everything and took care of the whole problem. Every gear shifted a lot smoother. I was amazed that just a fluid change could effect it that much. I've been a fan of BG Products every since. The service department I work at uses BG products. I would recommend them anyday to anyone.

on my 95, i use bg syncroshift 1. it is the best thing i've ever used, and since my tranny was rebuilt by shepracing, he recommended bg syncroshift 1 and redline shock proof light in the x-case + diffy. i have yet to miss a gear or grind or has it ever hesistated on me (i do have symborski UH and base bushings). i do flush my tranny every 6k miles, and do not find any metal shavings or silvery liquid either. this is after putting 12k on the tranny and constant 5500rpm+ clutch drops and hard awd launches and slamming gears. i will vouch for bg.

also bg syncro is less then $10 a bottle if you shop around. good luck!

they all work...the differences between different types is negligable unless your buying cheap crap.

I'm personally not a fan of redline because I destroyed my transmission a few thousand miles after switching to it.

I've put nearly every fluid in my transmission and the best by far is BG synchroshift II. BG I is nonsynthetic whereas BG II is a full synthetic.

Let me guess you put redline in a high mileage tranny, which is not recommended, and it became hard as hell to shift right? If you just got a new or rebuilt trans redline is the best to use, in my opinion.

I use Royal Purple SynchroMax and it has been working good. Next time I do a fluid change, I'll use a different brand to see if there's a difference.

Without a doubt Redline MT-90 for me has been the best tranny fluid. Tried them all BG synchroshift would be a runner up for sure.

i run redline MTL/MT90/Lightweight shockproof in a 1:1:1 ratio with maybe a touch more MTL just to spice things up. Most of the big power guys around here run Synchro+NEO RHD with good results.

Straight synchro* seems to be really thin, and makes me wary as far as gear protection. I don't think that shep is going to recommend using something that light if you're making good power- however for a stock car it does work well.

i used penzoil syncromesh also, and is great .................when cold after 30-40 minutes of freway driving, 3rd gears grinds a bit. ?????????????????????????wtf??

why is that. does tha mean i need to bump the viscosity??

My tranny would sometimes grind going into 1st while comming to a stop (even if I kept the clutch in till I came to a stop) and it would grind other gears sometimes as well. I also had the 5th gear shifter movement when stepping on the gas pedal and releasing the gas pedal.

I searched and luckily I found an amazing fix on vfaq for the shifter movement. The vfaq instructions say you should drain the tranny oil out before prying the the outer cover on the tranny, so obviously you need to have fliud ready to go back in when you're done, so I went with BG syncroshift 1 (1 is non synthetic and 2 is synthetic but more expensive) and after finishing tightening down the two bolts as hard as I could with an extension for more torque (the instructions say to use a torque wrench, but I don't have one and can't afford one but it said to tighten to over 100 ft/lbs which is a lot!) and adding the new BG tranny oil, I havn't had any grinds or movement in my 5th gear anymore as well as shifting smooth as hell.

When you're draining the tranny oil you'll probably notice a lot of very very tiny shrouds of metal in the oil if you've been grinding a lot. And then when you're refilling the oil, make sure you have a funnel and hose or something to get it to where the fill plug is because it can be a pain in the ass. I ended up constructing a custom pump and tubing to get it from the bottle to the fill hole using the pump from a clean windex type of bottle and using some tubing I had around that fit onto the end and sat there for over an hour pumping two and a half bottles of oil in. A bonus was having the pump actually fit on the bottle and screw down. Before that I tried using a paper funnel and other techniques that just wasted oil and made a mess.

My transmission on my 95 GSX has 126K, and the question that i am asking is that is it harmful to put full synthetic manual transmission oil in my trans? will it shorten the life of my transmission? What is better BG Syncroshift I? or II? for my high mileage transmission.

i have been running redline mt-90 for the past 600 miles now and i have noticed a huge difference, best gear oil i have ever used.

I use BG Syncroshift II and it's amazing. I highly recommend it. Gears were much easier to engage.

Where can I get this BG synchroshift oil?? I live in Puerto Rico, we have pep Boys, AAP, Western auto, and a couple of mitsu dealers & part stores. Do I have to purchase it online as my only option? I'm going to change it tomorrow or sunday, since I'm fixing the tranny case. Thanks!

I've found Penzoil synchromesh (very similar to BG synchromesh) at Autozone if you have it there. It's cheaper too.

I use Amsoil... its the only gear that I have found that actually states it is GL-4 compliant.

Take a look at the fine print. MT-90 explicitly states that it meets the requirements for GL-4. I'd bet that their MTL does, too, but I happen to be staring at a bottle of the heavier stuff.
