hey ive got a few questions about the maf-t. im looking to get this done soon. within the next few weeks heh it NEEDS to be done....first off, i have read the maf-t post in the FAQ, but still have a few questions. i heard the 2.5 inch does not fit a 14b? so if i go with a 2.5 will i need to change that out with a 3' when i upgrade my turbo? secondly, do you keep the stock MAF in the air can along with the GM MAF in the ICP?(i plan to vent). what would happen to the stock MAF when replace the air can with a cold air intake system? any help is appreciated! thanks!

The gm mas will be a 3" or a 3.5",there isn't a 2.5" gm mas.You wont have your stock maf or aircan anymore, the maft replaces all of it.You can just put the gm mas where your aircan is now(pull through) or put the gm mas in the upper intercooler pipe in front of the throttle body(blow through). You can use your stock mas/intake pipe as your intake or you can build a cold air intake.

Slowboy makes a MAF kit that comes with a MAF translator, couplers, 3 GM MAF, and t-bolt clamps, MAF KIT. Timloomis covered everything else. :thumb:

thanks for the help...but will a 3" MAF fit my 14b turbo? and any turbo upgrade i may do in the future? also, how does the gm MAF replacing the entire aircan work? that means no air filter..also, how would i install a cold air intake system with the GM MAF? thanks a lot.

It doesnt' matter what size turbo you have at the time, the Maf goes in the upper intercooler piping. Called "blow through" You have to run this set up if you are going to vent.

If you were going to put the maf where the aircan is you cannot vent. Just run a tube and end off with a 3" coupler, Put the maf in the coupler and a filter on the other side of the maf. That means yes filter.

If you want a cold air system with the maf you put it in the blow through set up in the uicp. Then you run a tube off the front of your turbo with a filter on it, or you can gut the aircan and use that tubing and filter as your cold air.

The MAF does not "fit" the turbo at all. It is typically placed in the upper IC pipe just before the throttle body elbow using reducer couplers. 3" is plenty big enough for any turbo you will use.

By using a GM MAF and translator (MAF-T), the stock MAS becomes obsolete. Technically you could leave it there but it would be an obstruction. Typically it would be removed and replaced with an adaptor of some sort to connect the air filter to the intake pipe.

In the photo below, you can see where the stock MAS is replaced with a section of tubing. The GM MAF is not shown but the red reducer coupler on the UICP which connects to the MAF is visible.

thanks for the help heh its starting to come togther now....but i have the stock rubber ICP, and i do not plan on buying a solid pipe for the SMIC, because i plan on getting a FMIC in the future. So how would i place the GM MAF inside the rubber piping? Would i need to cut it up a bit? thanks for any help

I would wait until you get hard pipes. I don't think there is enough room to place the MAF and relocate the BOV in the stock rubber tube.

ok so lets say i do get some ICP. How do i put the GM MAF in it?? EDIT: and what do you mean "relocate the BOV"?

When you have the IC piping you cut out a section of the pipe and insert the maf with a 2 1/2" to 3" coupler on both sides. You should have the ends beaded after you cut them so they do not blow apart under boost. The maf should be placed about 8 inches away from the throttle body.

What Wret was trying to say about relocating to bov was when you install the maf in the pipe it may run into where the bov flange is so you would have to relocate it further down the upper intercooler piping to avoid interference.

You should try searching the gallery for pics of others maf setups, this will help you understand better how things look when installed.

ahhhh ok thanks a lot for the gallery tip heh helped a lot. I also searched around slowboy parts and came across their UICP with the GM maf and maf-t assembled. That really cleared things up. One last question, will this be the right cold air intake pipe id need with the blow through setup? http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=2819& ...thanks again

Yes that is the correct pipe for the CAI. That pipe routes the filter back to the stock location. You can also use a gutted 1g setup since you are going back to the factory filter position. When you get a front mount you can route the filter to the stock sidemount location through the splash guard with a straight pipe that should bring down intake temps.

p.s. It is not a good idea to "bump" your thread
