Is a manifold heatshield needed?

Ive been running my car without a heatshield since ive owned it. It seems to produce a lot of heat under the hood. Would a nice sheetmetal heatshield be good thing to think about making and putting on?

Yes it will help to control underhood temps. A nice sheetmetal shield is not necessary, (although more attractive) a stocker will do the same job.

The people at mitsu put them there for a reason. Why would they waste countless dollars on stuff that could be torn off and thrown away. get one. Who cares about looks when you car is broke on the side of the road. Hows looks going to fix it then? Its money well spent man.

Now, to add on to this, what about us guys with tubular manifolds? I know you could custom make one, but what is the deal with this? I know the heat shields are only for the cast iron mani's, but like I said, what about tubular?

Tubelars arnt realy made for daily driveing, more for track use.

It really depends on which tubular manifold you get. Some are better than others when it comes to cracking. Oh, and learn to spell.

If i was you i would definately get a heat sheild, i learned the hard way and melted my radiator fan when i forgot to put it back on after i got a new manifold.

Sucks to be you. I've been running without one since before I even bought the car. I'm running a small16g with absolutely no problems other than a wicked hot engine compartment. After seeing the price on the JMFab one, though, I may well pick one up and see if it makes any difference.

i recommend not wrapping any exhaust component. the wrap causes heat spots that will eventually pop, bye bye mani.

Thats crazy, wouldnt want that to happen. I just think its crazy ive been running without one with no problems. And all these other people are melting stuff.

I've drove without one on my old GS and my current GSX the only thing I worry about is the o2 wire is sitting on the manifold... that hasn't melted.

Well I ordered up a jmfabrication shield. Does anyone know if they hand make these on order or if they are in stock. Also what do the bolts bolt up to when installing.
