i have an autometer electrical water temp gauge. I searched but didn't really find a good setup. Anyone know of one. Like where the sender is, any help would be great.

thanks

What do you mean where the sender is? You can't use the factory sending unit, as that is used by the ECU. You have to install your own sending unit, which you can do whereever you like. The 1G guys have a spare fitting on the thermostat housing, but I'm unsure about you. You may just have to drill and tap a spot for one.

For the 2g guys, there really is not good 'clean' place to install a coolant temp sensor.
I think GReddy sells an adapter for the upper radiator hose, but IMHO it looks like ass . . . and the walls of the t-stat housing are just too thin to really tap a new hole.

I personally am just about finished with switching over to a 1g tstat housing and must say it looks clean :D Only thing I dont like about it is I couldn't keep my silicon lower radiator hose, but otherwise, I think I will be happy with it.

Do some searches, there are a few threads on here with pictures showing different places ppl have installed temp sensors.

One option is (if your sensor is 1/8" NPT threads) you can remove your sending unit to the stock temp gauge and put the new sensor in there . . .

RRE also sells the water temp sending uint hose adapter, but yeah I know where Tsunari is coming from, no so much that it looks bad with the sensor mouotned in there, but the wires coming from it are hard to hide. BUT I have seen people install them in the lower rad hose as well, just be sure that it does not interfere with the shift cables/ mechanism. I do not know how much more of a difference the 2 location will make on water temp readings.

If it's installed in the lower radiator hose on a 2g, I think the readings would be lower because I do believe that is the 'return line' for the coolant (after it passes through the radiator) . . . someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Correction . . . I got my 2g lower radiator hose to fit . . . just needed to trim about 2-3" off of it on the water-pipe side. Actually . . . with the scatter shield, 1g water pipe, 3" intake and 2g tranny . . . the 2g lower hose fits better than the 1g lower hose :D

If you want the most effective fitment, install it in the upper radiator hose. Use the RRE fitting or make your own. This is where I have mine. Do not use the lower hose, as this is the "return" line and won't give you accurate engine temps.

Using the upper line also lets you monitor the opening temp of your thermostat, as the gauge will read very low until the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow through the top hose.

Do you have a link to the RRE fitting? I searched their entire site and could not find it.

bringing up a 2 year old thread....

I need to get an adapter and there was no link given for the one on RRE's site. I have the glow shift gauge and sensor, will that work with the greddy adapter???

I took out the sending unit for the factory water temp gauge, and screwed in my autometer sending unit, it works fine as long as you dont want you factory temp gauge anymore.

The glow shift sender I have is a LOT bigger than the stock 2g one. I tried that but it didn't work.

So does anyone know if the glowshift sender will work with the GREDDY upper radiator hose adapter???

I know a lot of people have glowshift gauges... what did you guys do for the temp sender?

Hmm... do you know where you can buy those reducers separate?

or has anyone else had this problem with the glowshift water temp sender?

I'm not familiar with Glowshift sending units, but I know that on Autometer ones, they usally provide you with a brass reducer that will allow you to screw the sending unit into your factory threaded housing.

Ok, what I need to know now is the size of the greddy temp sensor itself... the one that fits into the Greddy radiator hose adapter. Because in order to get a fitting to connect the glowshift one into the greddy adapt.er, I need the greddy size.

Maybe it's the same as the glowshift (1/8 NPT)... I don't know hopefully one of you does

In all honesty, it sounds like it would MUCH easier (in your case) to just drill the appropriate size hole into your T-stat houseing and then tap to match the threads on your Glowshift sending unit.

I just bought an autometer water gauge and I went to install the temp. probe in the stock location. It doesn't fit, every thread I have read says that everyone just screws it in the stock temp. sensor. How come mine doesn't fit? I cleaned the threads with a tap, still won't screw in.

Bumping an old thread.

I'm about to install the sensor for my Autometer gauge, and I'm using the 1G thermostat housing. I'm going to use the 1/8 BSPT port that has a plug in it. The autometer sensor is 1/8 NPT, so I figured I'd use a BSPT to NPT adapter. After looking at the way the sensor fits in the adapter I'm pretty positive the sensor won't work, since none of the probe extends past the adapter.

Am I correct? If it won't work I will re-tap the thermostat to NPT.
