i was FINALLY able to get my oil pump off...now heres where im extremely confused...i had NO idea there was a shaft behind the pump...is it ok that it came out? and if not...what do i have to do to fix it?...but if it is...what is the right way to take it off the pump? and whats the right way to install it back on there? (like does it have to go in any certain way? or do i go by the marks on the pump to install the shaft? i have no clue) i know ive had a lot of posts about this stupid oil pump...but im down to this...if i can get help to figure it out...ill have my baby back out on the road in a few days...please any help would be great!!!!

Thanks,

Diego G.

Diego. That is a balance shaft. Yes, it has to be indexed with the timing belt as if you get it out of sync, it will rattle your teeth out.

You will notice that there's a shaft with one side heavier than the other. This rotates 3 revolutions for every one of the crank. This is to smooth out the engines "feel"

If you look down the back of your block right in the middle of the round hump, there's a 14 mm bolt. Remove it and stick a number 2 phillips or your 1/4 drive extention in there. The balance part should be at the bottom when the marks line up. When this happens, your tool of choice will go further in the block. Push the tool in and turn the oil pump shaft till you feel it go in deeper.

Or, you can just keep turning till the mark tries to line up by itself. This also will tell you it's near the right place. Any of the others and the mark will not line up by itself.

It's a feel thing.

Orrrrrrr. You could now install your handy balance shaft eliminator kit. Which would be a great idea as you already have the thing out in your hand.

But that's a whole other thread.

Good Luck
