Hey, I just saw this picture and was curious if wrapping that outlet pipe with some thermo wrap would help? It's aweful close to that turbo.
Would it be beneficial to wrap the entire intercooler pipe tract? I mean I know it might not gain a whole lot but wouldn't it help? What kind of gains would be expected?

Heres that picture:

I wraped mine with a reflective tape. Im sure it helped a little, but i just wanted the added comfert in knowing that its wrapped. My dump tube is also very close to my LICP.

I had to wrap my lower pipe because I have an external wastegate/external dump and it dumps right on top of the intercooler pipe.:thumb:

Why a reflective tape? How do you think this helped at all? Or do you mean the sticky heat tape?

Anything that helps your air stay cooler is a plus.
He stated he wrapped his pipes in reflective tape. If he's reffering to a reflective red/silver tape that you stick on your bike that shines in the headlights then its not going to do him any good then just looking retarted.

If he's reffering to the sticky, silver shiney heat tape then it may help a small amount. Either way, it's nothing your going to gain any noticeable HP from.

I was answering the thread question not the reflective tape one.

i'm sure that a dump tube dumping right on the intercooler piping isn't going to raise the temp inside too much, but any rise in temp is bad. the question that needs to be addressed is how much heat is disipated through the bare pipes. heat wrap does more than keep heat out, it keeps it in. i think that a heat shield will be more efective in this instance. one that is standing off of the IC pipe a bit, and goes halfway around the pipe, much like a regular exhaust shrowd under your car so it doesn't melt the carpet.

it's before the intercooler. wouldn't the intercooler cool the air?

yes it would cool the air, but any intercooler can only decrease the temp of the air a certain ammount, the cooler air you start with, the cooler you end up with, which increases density, increasing power.

The pic at the beginning of this thread is of my newly finished fmic install. I'm debating whether i should wrap the licp or create a heat shield of some sort. The piping you see isn't actually close to the turbo, its really close to the frame so its down pretty far, but it is however an inch away from my custom external dump 02. The dump isn't letting exhaust gasses out onto the pipe, it exits them below the frame, but i'm sure a lil heat thats dissapated from the thick steel pipe is absorbed by my 2.5 aluminized steel intercooler pipe. So im either gonna wrap both with some exhaust wrap or make a heat shield. ANyone else have any experience with either of these?

Sorry i left out an important word in my post. I wraped it in Reflective Heat Tape. LOL

Its basically the heat wrap with a aluminum foil like outside and a sticky backside. Thermo Tec makes it.

Heres what i used.

Also have a pic of it on my TB elbow, sorry i dont have a pic of it on my LICP, but its the same stuff.
