So I'm looking at the Evo 16g turbo. Curious about what kind of fuel setup you guys that have them are using. I've got a 190 walbro and 550 injectors. I've had some people tell me that's going to be enough, but some others say that the 255 and 660s are needed. So I'm just curious as to what you guys are using and what kind of numbers you're putting down.

You can get away with 550's and the 190, but I'd suggest the 660/255/FPR combo. More fuel is nice especially if you really wanna turn up teh bewst.

550s work fine. not sure about the fuel pump but you may want to do the rewire. i remember hearing that an FPR is neccesary for the 1Gs but i'm not entirely sure if that is for an evo 16G.

check my profile for all my mods but i'm using 550s just fine along with a 255 fuel pump with the rewire. putting down 278 hp at 21 psi with 93 octane.

only 278hp at 21psi on a e316g? why so low?

supra smic, stock cams mainly. doesn't help that it has over 140k on the stock motor. full compression though. it was also tuned a little conservative. hot day might not have helped either.

i never thought this was considered low. what would you have expected with my mods?

16G variants make much more power at higher boost (within reason). With a soild tune and 24psi you should see a big difference. While the cams are holding you back, I'd venture to say that your air/fuel ratio was way too conservative. It's not bad for 21 psi, but there was much more left on the table when it came to the tune.

Add some methanol injection or race gas, take it up to 24-25psi, lean it out a bit and you should see some much better numbers. Also, while 550's are useable, you'll never exploit the full power of the turbo unless you go with a set of 660's. Even jacking the fuel pressure will only help so much. Then again, you have the vicious circle of trying to ride the line between being too rich and drowning the motor and going leaner and jacking the timing from airflow subtraction with the AFC. I don't envy that situation in the least.

It's a strong start though,

Andy

it was tuned to work for 22 or 23 psi but we didn't push it past there just to be safe. the next time i go to the dyno i'll work on fine tuning it more. This was also tuned just for everyday street driving. i wasn't going for racing or huge numbers necessarily. one of these days i'll get race gas in it and turn it up to 25 or 26 but not until i get a frontmount. there is alot more power in this turbo though like you said. when i have more money to devote to the car it will see them too.
