hey im looking to buy a 2g eclipse and was wondering what all the differences are between a gs, rs, gst, and gsx?

The rs is the bottom of the line. Then comes the gs. Its got a few more fetures, different wheels,ect... Overall imo a better looking car. Then there's the gst. Its a turbocharged model. Different wheels again and alot more power than the nt's as you can imagine. Then there's the gsx. The top of the line. It is also turbocharged and it is awd too. Alot of the people that bought them new, bought them loaded. So alot of them have leather interior and all the perks.

Ok, GS and RS are non-turbo, inline 4 cylinders, FWD, about 140ish HP - Very Common

GST is a Turbocharged, Inline 4, FWD, about 210 Horsepower - Less Common

GSX is a turbocharged, I4, All Wheel Drive, with about 210 horsepower - Somewhat rare

get a gsx....n/t eclipses are soooo slow

Agreed. However their killer gas mileage and the ability to put 87 in them is tempting :) (atleast for me (50 mile commute)). I have both.

to pretty much put it in perspective: RS/GS = :notgood: Slow/Less Fun (Less Modding Oppurtunities) GS-T/GSX = :thumb: Fun/Fast and alot of Modding Options and So Many Different Directions To Go In! But Price is a huge factor in these cars. If you are looking for a sporty car with some options and relativley cheap go with the GS, if looking for power and modding oppurtinities then go with a GS-T or GSX. Good Luck, im in the same boat with you, its a matter of finding that deal.

That depends on the driver... so let's watch what we say here. :|

Everyone forgot to mention that the 2G RS and GS come with different engines (Chrysler - 420A) than the GS-T and GSX (Mitsubishi - 4G63).

Getting the most out of either car will require money, patience, and know-how. The GS-Ts and GSXs have an advantage because they were turbocharged from the factory, and were built to handle boost. RSs and GSs weren't, so it takes a little more to get to that point.

In the end, with rebuilt engines, and similar parts, the two cars are comparable (unless of course you want AWD, then the GSX is your only choice). It all depends on what you want to do with the car - and how much time and money you have.

yeah very true sorry if i sounded sorta biased there, time and money and know how are very important and can make GS/RS models better than GS-T/GSX . Just depends on you.

Save yourself the trouble of turboing a 420A and just get the gs-t or gsx. Plus the 4G63 has much more potential than the 420A and is cheaper to mod.

It's cheaper to mod initially. Any car that wants real power will need an engine rebuild. At that point, the costs start to even out. Not to mention, you pay a good $3,000 to $6,000 more just for the little sticker on the hatch that says "GS-T" or "GSX."

And how does it have so much more potential? They're both 2.0 liter engines. The 420A is a newer design too; by about 25 years.

At least with the 420A, you only buy one turbo system, not two. The first thing GS-T and GSX owners do is practically replace their whole turbo system.

Don't listen to unbiased claims - know the facts. If you want a powerful car without having to do any mods, and you have the money, get a GS-T or GSX. If you want a car with potential, provided you take the time to learn, get either.

if the prices start to even out....why not just start with the turbo model?

Personally, I wouldnt want people to know i drive a gs/rs... even if it has a turbo swap. Just the feeling of it would be weird to me.
Not that theres anything wrong with that....its just IMHO.

Where did he ask for opinions on what to buy, or which one is better when it comes to all the details. Never..

Sure turboing 420a is alittle hassle, but I love it. Maybe he wants a project car, never stated.

His ? was answered all of this bickering is un-necessary.

what are you looking to do with it?
race? or just an average car to drive around?
yea im looking to race with it. anything would be an upgrade from a 2004 nissan sentra 1.8s that i drive right now. but i think i would prefer getting an gst or a gsx and thanks for all the info

As long as you stay with a DSM it's all good. If you want i don't mean easy, but easIER power, go with the 4g63. It's all good. Just don't turn into one of the narrow minded 4g63 is better than 420a in every way shape form DSMers:thumb:

Ok let me start by saying the 420a can be made intro a igger powerhouse than the 4G63T with money. If you want an easy 350whp go with the GST/GSX. With bolt-ons you can easilyreach 375-400 whp. If you want pure speed go with a 1g Eclipse GSX or Talon TSi AWD. These 1g's are light and very very quick.I will trade my modded 1997 GST for a 1992 TSi AWD straight-up.

EDIT: can you tell I'm drunk wirting this?

If your looking to get a fast stock car go with the turbo models TSi, GSX or GST. They don't take all that much money to make fastter. If you want a reliable car go with the non turbo RS or GS. I have a 1.8 Eclipse Daily Driven Car with 205,000 miles and still running strong...LOL!

Yes, it is possible to find them for 5k or less but you are going to have to be very patient in finding them and willing to travel and/or pay to have the car shipped. These models will probably be older and will most likely have north of 100k miles. Be careful when looking especially with a car with a lot of mods. (Usually) modded cars are driven hard, what would be the reason to mod cars if you dont use them right? So be careful and be patient. Good Luck in finding one, im trying to do the same thing!

so what kinda numbers will i be looking at for a gst or gsx with some bolt ons

:notgood:

I know you're new, but that's really too vague. Look around this site a little. Read everything you can! Then you'll get a general idea.
