:talon: when i start the car, its starts up fine and runs fine, but when i get on the road and try to boost, all i see is whitish blue smoke out from my tail pipe and i can't even reach full boost or no boost at all, it feels like my clutch is slipping, need help asap...

Need more info?

What RPM does it start building boost?
What Boost level is it set at?
What mods (profile says stock)?
Do you have a aftermarket boost gage?
Have you done a compression test?
Have you done a leak down test?
Have you checked for shaft play of the turbo?
Does it sound different when it's spooling than before?
Have you done a boost leak test?
Does it use any oil?
Does it use any coolant?
Whats it idle at?
Does the car run good other wise?
How many miles on engine? On turbo?
Is there any other problems?

If we get answers to some of these we may be able to help? Right now were just shooting at a fly in the dark.

What RPM does it start building boost? around 4-5k thats if it does build boost
What Boost level is it set at? stock
What mods (profile says stock)? yes bone stock
Do you have a aftermarket boost gage? autometer
Have you done a compression test? 140-145 across all four
Have you done a leak down test? no not yet
Have you checked for shaft play of the turbo? some shaft play up and down, lots of in and out
Does it sound different when it's spooling than before? yes alot louder
Have you done a boost leak test?nope
Does it use any oil? no
Does it use any coolant?no
Whats it idle at? around 900 warmed up
Does the car run good other wise? yes when i dont go into boost, but once i try it runs like crap
How many miles on engine? rebuilt motor, 2k, stock 95k 14b turbo
Is there any other problems? yes, trying to find out the route of the internal oil coolers line go(waterpipe and etc)

Based on your replies to the previous post, I would recommend that you perform a boost leak test, leakdown test and thoroughly check your cooling system. You say the car is not consuming or losing coolant -- what checks/tests have you performed to confirm this? A blown/leaking HG will produce white smoke from the tailpipe, but there are other symptops, including the telltale oil in coolant/coolant in oil. If you are not experiencing any symptoms of a faulty HG, and compression/leakdown tests are OK, I would suspect a faulty turbo. The shaft play you described alone indicates that it might be time for that turbo to meet its maker.

If you have a lot of in and out play the seals on your turbo are blown. If it was your clutch you would still build boost and if it was a headgasket you would lose coolant in your oil and would have a lot lower compression then that.

Agreed. Listen to that guy :thumb:

its done this 3 times today so i parked the car for the day and when I checked the oil dipstick, it looks like it has enough oil, maybe i should drive the car more?? any suggestions

Based on what you told us I say a turbo. When you checked the shaft play, did you check the sides of the inner inlet to see if the compressor wheel was rubbing? You say it is a lot louder than normal, does it almost sound more of a wine than the nice spool sound? If so it's the turbo. Thats why you may be burning oil, because the seals are bad? Does it only blow blue smoke when at WOT or when your boosting?

I'm almost 100% sure it's the turbo.

BTW if it was a head gasket he would over heat, and also you can have great compression and still blow one, believe me I know and it coasted me a few Penny's.

When you are in gear, does the RPM goes up without reaching speed?

If the RPM's went up Without reaching speed while in gear, That would mean it would be a burned out clutch.

Seems that it is the turbo, Since theres alot of in and out play that would mean the turbo seals are bad

Its the turbo guarnteed, if it has in and out play then its screwed, look for a new one. If you are going to do any upgrading to your car sit down and think of your goals for it. And pick your turbo based on your goals. :thumb:

Any in and out play on a turbo is bad, very very bad. Turbo's should have no in and out play, a little side to side is ok as long as the blades don't touch the housing.

Your turbo is bad. plain and simple
