I just bought a 95 eclipse gs-t off ebay(big mistake, stated as running but when i get the car the head is missing, looks like the timing belt snapped and bent all the valves) so ive decided just to drop in a 6 bolt.
My question is will a 6 bolt N/T engine work?

and if you have any good places to get one at a decent price please list them

thanks a lot

Many people do the 6 bolt swap into their 2g's. Usually it is the turbo'd 6 bolt though. Try to find a turbo'd one, if you can't, I don't see why the n/t wouldn't work, you would just need to swap the ECU as well.

You may have to swap the ECU in the turbo swap anyways.

wow are you serious?

a 1g NT has a different compression, not to mention internals. yes you can swap in a 1g 4G63 nonturbo motor, but why hte hell would you want to?

what are your goals? are you planning to make some serious power (400+whp)? if no, then just get a 6bolt motor and call it a day

if it's to make a shitload of power, build the 6 bolt then put it in your car.

lastly, if you just want a daily driver with some horsepower, just slap a 2g head on your existing motor and let her rip. I don't know if you know much about DSMs or not, but our stock motors can take a hell of a beating :thumb:

p.s., unless you're a mechanic that has been dealing specifically with DSMs for a long time, your car will not be done in 14 hours of labor :boring: I even wonder if half of the regular mechanics know that you'd have to rewire the CAS for a 6 bolt swap, etc.

if I were you, i'd do some SERIOUS researching before you plan your next move.

Yes and No.

A 1G 2.0 N/T motor has much in common the the 4G63T motor.

The block is the same, they both have the 1G big rods, and they share the same crank. The big difference is the pistons. The 1G N/T pistons are weak, and are not designed to be used with boost. I'm not sure if the N/T block had the squirters or not either.... Here's a list of the parts you would need to make the conversion correctly:

Turbo ECU
Turbo intake cam
Stronger Clutch
Exhuast manifold
Turbo
O2 Housing
Downpipe
Side Mount Intercooler, BOV, And all Piping
Knock sensor
MAS from a turbo 1g or a converted 2g MAS
Fuel Pressure Regulator (aftermarket)
450cc or larger fuel injectors and fuel pump
Boost Gauge
Turbo pistons (or stronger aftermarket pistons)

SkinnyBAM - I'm sure you allready have most of this stuff. ^^^ It would be easy for you to buy a N/T motor and use most of your existing parts and do a conversion. But in all honesty, if you just need a head, than thats all I would be looking for. Is there anything wrong with the block that you have?

well like i said you can see in the block where the valves were bent and made a mark but other than that it looks ok. I do have the intake manifold in the passenger seat. The other reason i wanted to drop in a 6 bolt was to avoid crank walk, the car has 147k on it.Im not looking for a lot of power just bolt ons so i can have a little fun on the freeway. This is my first car though so i just know the basics so any tips you guys have would be appreciated

does the 1g nt have the same head and the 1g turbo head? i mean like the power stuff like same size runners and stuff like that?

sweet. oh and one more thing... Is the Intake plenum the same size as well? reason i ask is because my friend gave me a 1g nt engine for free so i just may do a full build sense it was free, right?

If the motor did not crankwalk already, you are safe! Just buy a head and call it a easy way out! It wil save you some green as well!

I cant believe this thread is back LOL...yea I just bought a new head and am in the process of putting it in right now if anyone was wondering. Yea I slacked off for bit:cool:

Hey dsmtuners enforces the search function so hey i used LOL. but yeah let me know how you make you. Ps. is it a nt head?

No its a turbo head with a 110k on it, a member on this site saw one of my threads and told me he would sell it to me. Ill let you know how everything goes, im just waiting my gasket set that i ordered over a week ago and is still not here:mad:

I have a friend who is willing to give me a n/t 6 bolt that is in fair shape. Now if I rebuild the bottem end using stock resurfaced and balanced crank, stock rods, new oem bolts, and put some 2g pistons and a new HG on it with ARP bolts. Use the head but with 2g cams or HKS cams, and intake manifold. Looking for 320whp dail driver. Is there anything else extra I would have to do other than the regular turbo 6 bolt swap?

There's no reason that a N/T wouldn't work with your car, won't be as much fun, but it should drop right in. Most people will charge between 750 and 1000 for labor. I'm getting my motor and tranny dropped in for 1000 bucks...

I dont know if you will hit your horsepower mark but if you rebuild the bottom end of the NT 6bolt with 2g pistons you will be fine. The only thing you would be missing to make it the same as the turbo motor is the oil squirters. And with what you are planning on doing you will have plenty of fun with that setup.
