What is Timing?

Ok, i read and see this everywhere on this site but i dont get it. As part of tuning. I read the tech articles by KPT4321, but if someone can explain it in terms of tuning in simpler form it'd be really helpful.

It's spark advance. If you want to understand how it relates to tuning try googling that term.

It's where in relation to the crankshaft rotation (hence, piston position) that the spark is set off.
