No oil pressure when priming -new oil pump/ could it be sender unit?

i have a new oil pump in there with a balance eliminator shaft and when turning it over to priming i left the oil feed line off at the oil sending unit (filter housing) and no oil is coming out... ive cranked it straight in intervals of 10-15 seconds like almost 10 times... shouldnt it have built pressure by now?

when i crank it over by hand at the crank i here hissing almost like major blowby in one of my cylinders, unless im hearing it hissing out of the exhaust.

could the oil sending unit cause me to not have oil pressure? is there a valve or something in there that will go bad? if so how much have you guys paid for them and do you have to go to just the dealer to get them?

thanks

I've had this happen on 2 of my DSM's. I took a gear oil pump (just a hand operated pump to dispense gear oil) and attached a length of clear tubing to the end of it. Then I removed the oil pressure sender and pushed the clear tubing in the sender hole on the filter housing. Then I pumped a quart of oil through the oil sender hole and cranked it up and had pressure. I hope this helps.

I used a oil evacuator pump and sucked oil through a plug in the oil filter housing and that worked perfect.
