Thunder Bay,
I found a website which will allow me to buy the old R-12 Freon for my Talon, because otherwise I would have to get it retrofitted to use the new kind. The Freon comes in 12oz cans. I have no idea how much I would need, and I don't have an owner's manual, does anyone have any idea how many cans of this I would need to purchase?

If you've never done this before, I would suggest either taking it somewhere to have it done, or going to walmart and buying an R-134a retrofit kit to convert it to the newer refrigerant.

That being said, the capacity of the system is between 24oz and 26oz (if memory serves), and you're only supposed to fill to 80% of that (~19oz). With R12, you'll have to add the oil seperate. Most R-134a containers include the oil.

My advice would be to take it to a certified A/C shop and have them recover the remaining R12 in your system (they'll do this for free) and vacuum pump the system (they say you're supposed to - I didn't on mine and it's fine). Then I'd retrofit it with the R-134a kit. It includes everything you need (fittings, refrigerant, and filler hose w/pressure gauge).

And so you don't look all over the engine bay in frustration, the high pressure port is on the passenger side of the car, and the low pressure port is on the compressor on the back side of the engine.

I had my car converted to Freeze-12. It's not the old R-12, but a newer engineered refrigerant. The kit cost me 20 bucks. I had it installed and recharged with the new refrigerant for maybe 50 bucks. And if I ever need to get it recharged again, Freeze-12 is much cheaper the R-12. Just another option for ya.

This is what it looks like now with the Freeze 12 kit on there.
