ok, i was going down the interstate, i was rolling pretty good ;) and i got off and stopped at a gas station, everything was fine, no problems, and i went in for about 4 minutes then came back out started my car and smoke was pouring out from under the hood!!! so i cut the car off and popped the hood and there was a little flame coming from where the oil feed line connects to the turbo....so i blew it out (scared the crap outta me) and i had my fiance start the car real quick and cut it off and the oil was FLOWING out of the oil feed line right after it bends to go away from the turbo....i just replaced my feed line and turbo in June and i replaced it with a stainless steel line and i am guessing that the reason that it is leaking is because it was too close to my exhaust manifold and the steel was basically melted (i havent taken the line off yet to check it out) ....but when i was installing the line i couldnt find a better way to route the line unless i can find one long enough to run around in front of the exhaust manifold right behind the radiator. Another question, has anyone ever taken the oil feed line off without taking the whole turbo off??? i enclosed a picture off the route that it takes now (green) and the route that i am thinking would be better (red)

Not the steel but the teflon or plastic tubing inside the braid melted. You really have to route the line as far away as you can from the exhaust.

Mine comes off the filter, over to the crossbrace below the radiator where the line runs inside a corrigated split tube to protect hose from rubbing, up along the fan until it runs back to the turbo feed.

I have my SS line zip tied to the fan shroud on the radiator as soon as it comes up from the oil filter housing. Its the farthest away I can get from the exhaust and I haven't had any problems with it. Let us know what you find in in when you take it off.

Oh and I have loosened the SS line with the turbo still on, never taken the bolt completely off with the turbo still bolted up but I assume it would be the same. I had my heat shield off though.

Hard lines > SS lines

Sure stainless lines look all pretty and shiney, but all it really is is a rubber hose with a fancy shroud.

actually the stainless steel keeps the rubber inside from expanding. my guess is that it didnt melt but possibly made contact with your alternator. ive seen this happen before, sounds just like your story.

OMG OH man, dont tell me those kind of things about stainless feed lines, i still havent picked up my set yet!! ;) Wouldnt having an exhaust manifold heat shield be enough protection for the feed lines? The stock 1g heat shields, the black ones, dont get super super hot. I've touched it before after driving and it wasnt unbearably hot. :D
