Build your own intake or buy one?

Money is kinda tight right now thats why I was thinking of building my own. Or should I just wait and buy a Dejon Tool 1gM 2.75". (I think thats the right one for stock turbo and MAF.)

If your a a good welder it would be quite ez...but I am not that.. the dejon intakes seem to be reasonably priced and effective as any..Its up to you!

I'm planning on making my own intake and IC pipings out of Aluminum. Going to mock them up off of a friends car. The fab shop where my dad works just got a brand new tig welder and some of the guys over there are damn good with it.

I also did the home depot intake, except I got the parts from lowes. It works great and was very easy to do. I think there is how-to some where on this site.

I plan on building my own. Actually I was going to buy all the stuff to do the Home Depot intake tomarrow if I can find the right parts. I'm pretty sure I can find all of them. But I don't know what kind of piece to use for the BOV return tube into the intake?? Help?

I didn't go the plastic route. Get a 2.25 in. diameter mandrel bend (45 degrees), cut here and there and do this;

I went home depot and lowes near Chicago today, and neither knew what the hell ABS was..... They said all they had was white PVC, steel, or galvonic pipes. I went through every isle looking for any type of black piping. Anywhere else they would have ABS???

It may be against building codes in your area to use ABS for whatever reason.

ABS = Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. If you feel like remembering that, you can school them.

PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride) will work just as well. You can spraypaint it black if you wish.

the chrome intake pipes the sell on e-bay to imitate the injen pipes are really nice. They only cost about 40 bucks and come with all the couplers and clamps, plus no fabrication work. for e-bay

Wow, thats a very nice and cheap alternative. While not the best looking, im sure it gets the job done. Got any pics of that in the engine bay?? How is it?

It works fine. Your not going to get big power gains out of any intake anyway. This is all I have for now. I just sold the Eclipse and have to get it ready for emissions, so I'll try and remember to get a close up.

Well-stocked hardware stores have a plethora of ABS piping. Don't waste your time at the local auto-shop.

I went to Home Depot and Lowes. Does it get anymore well-stacked then them??? Hmm might be the fact that they have ordinances against ABS and almost all spray paints here in Chicago. Anywhere else I might be able to pick'em up?
