what year 4 bolt rear end ?

sorry for the n00b question. I was just wondering if 1st generation awd's have a 4 bolt rear end. i hear about people with 1990 gsx/tsi doing 4 bolt rear end swaps. i am not sure if it was just the 1990 models that were made with the three bolt rear or what, could someone help me out here? thanks a lot.(selling my car for 1g)
