How do you adjust the Greddy Type S for best performance?

I’ve got a Type-S on my 97 GS-T, and I’m not sure how tight I should have it.
Does it make a big difference if it’s adjusted incorrectly?

Is it better to have it on hard or soft?

I'm curious about the same thing, as I just got the same bov for a 98 gst.

You guys want it set as soft as it can go without getting compression surge. Compression surge is a bad thing for your turbo over time. You'll know if you have it because when the BOV is surging, it'll make a "juh juh juh" sound, not a solid "whoosh" or "sneeze" sound that the Type-S should make. Make sure you guys have both of the nipples on the BOV connected.. the top nipple needs to be spliced into a vacuum line (intake mani.) and the lower nipple needs to be connected with a boost line (intake pipe, where the stock BOV was connected). What I did to adjust mine was just keep a wrench/allen wrench with me and went driving around. I set it somewhere in the middle as to where I was getting the compression surge, and then I would get out and tighten it about half a turn until I wasn't getting it anymore. Another way to do it is take off the dump tube and put something over the hole where it connects with the intake. Set the BOV as soft as it will go and have somebody turn your car on -- it'll die right away. Keep tightening it until it idles but doesn't die (it should idle pretty poorly), then turn the car off again, and give it one more quarter to half-turn harder. Hope this helps :thumb:

EDIT:
Tryin to clear things up a bit more.. the top nipple is in the back of the BOV (towards rear of car, I also think the nipple's pointed down a bit), if you buy a new Type-S it'll come with a 3-way splice, that's the one you connect into your intake mani. line which is on the driver side of the manifold somewhere I believe. The other nipple (most obvious one to see) goes into the intake where the stock BOV line went.

You want it turned as hard as possible without getting compresser surge. If it's too hard, the valve doesn't open and you get compresser surge. If it's too soft, it can leak at idle and leak under a lot of boost. There's a pretty good range of play there where it's fine. "Fine tuning" isn't really needed. Usually about half way in/out works fine with no leaking and no compresser surge.

Thanks for the correction :p When you have both nipples hooked up, it's not fine-tuning at all like 98spydert said and compression surge is almost unheard of unless you're at one extreme or the other.

Thanks for all the help guys.
However, I’m a little worried now. My upper nipple is attached to the intake-man, but the lower isn’t attached to anything!
I’m running a 97 Talon TSI eng. What do I need to do?

Also, it bucks a little bit before the turbo kicks in (it’s really slow coming out of a stop)
I don’t know if that’s related to the BOV or not though..

use the hose and 3 way that came with the bov, connect the lower nipple to the wastegate actuator hose, the one coming out of the gold thing, use the three way

I’m a pretty big n00b. Could you explain what that means in n00b-speech.
Also, I dont have any of the hoses that came w/ the BOV, So I'll have to use something else.

The gold thing he is referring to is the wastegate. Take a look on your turbo and youll see the "gold thing". The wastegate actuator is coming off of that.

As for the hose, just go to pep boys and find hose that fits on the nipple of the type s. Its like 3 bucks for 10ft.

As long as your recirculating, the bucking probably isn't the BOV. I'd check for broken engine mounts or possible a warn clutch.

The lower nipple doesn't have to be connected to anything. It works fine just leaving it alone.
