I'm in the market for new headlights. Wich put off the most light, but look decent? I am willing to spend no more than $350 for these. I need them for a '99 Front Bumper.. i switched my talon to a '99 eclipse bumper. Also, what are the best foglights to fit in the '99 bumper? those holes are pretty small...

Anyone got PICS of headlights/foglights on their cars? I am looking for a black housing.. I have a white car...

Projector lights would be cool. but i heard a lot of people say they don't put off much light, is this true?

i searched the forums, but can't find any recent posts... anyone got suggestions? :talon: :talon:

I'll sell you my black projectors for pretty cheap if your interested. There apc dual projection headlights. They fit 97-99 Eclipses... but i made an "filler" adapter for 95-96 headlights. Email me or PM me if interested. They do cut down on the night visibility, but i upgraded to silverstars so i didnt really loose too much visibility.

I have those as well on my Talon. Well, I think they are APC or Ebay brand. Don't know. They came with the car and haven't had time to look. And night visablity is pretty limited. What bulbs did you use to make them brighter?

hid would be illegal period. Besides a true hid setup would likely run you 3Xs or more what you said you wanted to spend on this.

the cheapest I've ever seen HIDs was $500 or $600. they ain't cheap, but they're nice.

and why would they be illegal? Cars come from the factory with them.

From my understanding aftermarket HID's are illegal because when installed improperly they blind oncoming traffic.

He's pretty much right. Aftermarket HID's are generally illegal because of an improper beam pattern. Ever seen a car come up behind you with one incredibly bright light and one thats not bright? They likely ####ed up its alignment. That's why DOT says most aftermarket HID sets are illegal. However, you CAN find a couple companies that make DOT legal but I don't know of any for a DSM, only for VW's.

You're best bet is really just to clean up your lights and go with the Silverstars. There are some crappy ones however, with the same name. Halogen Bulbs ranked is the VW guys list as far as the best bulbs. It's pretty much accurate. I've tried out all the bulbs on the list there for my Passat (it has TERRIBLe headlights stock...waiting so bad on my Hella e-codes). Realize though that most of the good bulb sets will set you back around $40 a pair, more if you shop at the wrong place.

If you want a really cheap mod, thats illegal but hard to tell, you can drop high beam bulbs into the low beam sockets. You just have to sand off a few tabs on the bulb itself. I wouldn't really recommend it but if you want to be cheap its an easy way to increase your brightness. Again, I don't recommend it and if you can pulled over its not my fault ;)

I mounted a pair of JDM Projector Headlight on my friends '95 GST. He got them off eBay for $230. From what I noticed, they illuminated the street a lot more than the stock headlights. Even if they were 'brighter', they lighted up the street and a lot more, so it could 'blind' other cars if not alligned properly.

Anyway, I came up upon this website from the ads in dsmtuners.com - http://www.xtremelightsinc.com/

They seem to carry a variety of headlights, and HID systems.

----

EDIT: Oh yeah, those JDM Projectors were DOT approved.

So, what are the BEST non-HID headlights out there... not talking about the bulb.. talking about the housings.. i'll be using silverstar bulbs as always... black housing :)

several of the projector type housings are dot approved...for halogen type bulbs...not for hid, completely different setup. silverstars are a good choice, now to find the right projector housings :)

The ones I mounted where HID/DOT Approved. I was surprised by the approval, and by the left projector that seemed to be alligned to illuminate more to the right than to the front. Those headlights illuminate in form of a "W" each, the right one was right on the money, but as I said, you may come across one that isn't properly alligned and could blind other drivers.

nope reason has nothing to do with it.

you can not change the manner in which light is emitted from a headlight is the gist of the law.

for most cars this means that you must use a bulb which has a filament if the vehicle was approved with filament type bulbs, and you may use hids only on vehicles which were originally equipped and certified with them...

the best headlights for a DSM in my opinion are the stockers with silverstar bulbs... I have never had such excellent results in any other vehicle with any other bulb syls included.

and if you are a bit of a cheater like me and have fogs, you can up the beam pattern a bit so they thro farther out, and it greatly helps in rural driving as well as to illuminate road signs at night much better. I don't know why they put signs with little lettering 9-10 feet in the air so you need a flashlight in most cars to see them, but it is not a problem in my talon.

I do occasionally get the oncomming flash, but a quick return flash indicates those are my lows, and they are no where near as annoying to oncoming as Ford pickups or hids or projectors.
