Ok I have a 91 AWD TSI and she has around 240 k on the engine, car has 150. Engine wasnt the orignal.
Anyway it still runs very strong and I have no problems but I'm getting a bit of blow by so I've decided to rebuild.
Not wanting to have downtime as this is my daily driver I picked up a long block out of a 90.
My first question is, is it true I should keep the engine setup as a 90 as far at the oil pump and filter housing go? My friend said the 90 air cooled engine was better then the 91+ water cooled.
Also I've decided to go with eagle rods and ross 8.5:1 20 over pistons. These pistons come with rings but are the rings really that good or sound I concider something else for rings? Again i was told to get something called total seal or true seal (cant remember the exact name) because they completely seal with no gaps or something.
Then my last question is about gaskets, bearings and stuff like that. Is one type of gasket or bearing really better then another? My friend told me just to buy a TopLine rebuild kit and sell the pistons out of it on the trader or something and use all the gaskets, oil pump, belts and bearings for my rebuild as they are cheap priced kits.
Another friend said the gaskets are fine but I might want to look at OEM mitsubishi belts, water pump, oil pump and then like Clevite brand bearings because they are better then toplines bearings.
I do plan to go with ARP rod and head bolts though.
And one last thing, does anyone sell like a bolt kit? Just because everytime I try to remove bolts on my car now, bolts break alot I thought about replacing ALL the bolts and shit for my rebuild.
I dont plan to do a ton of racing ###### only going to run around 18 pounds. I'm looking more for long engine life then something I can run 25~30 psi in and run 10 seconds quarters. I dont want to have to rebuild again in 10 to 20k

I would like to get 100+ out of this engine.
Anyone got suggestions of input?
