This is my first time that I have ever worked with sheet metal, or even fabricated anything before. I have to give credit to turbo1307 for helping me with the dimensions. *thanks alot*
So here it is, check it out:

I still need to polish it up alot, i dont have any polish at my house, so i will probaly do that tommorrow.
Let me know what you think.

No respect at all. How are you going to just toss it on a rosebush to take a picture. I like the way it looks now, looks like it has a clearcoat or something on it. No need to polish. maybe just do something about those rusted bolts.

What type of material did you use? If you posted I am sorry, I must have missed it.

If it is trapping more heat then need be, make some sort of ventilation on it. Maybe some sort of heat extraction like on the EVO hood. Or just drill some holes in a nice equally spaced manner. Make your Plug cover match it like a set and see if people will buy it from you.

I might even take one if the product is pleasing tothe eye.;)

Nice, Gabor has been selling those here in St Louis for over a year. I've got one on my car and a couple of folks have already asked me about buying them from him. He just sold a bunch on the Galant board.

well to start answering the questions:
I made mine before i heard that Gabor had been selling them. i didnt know that. if i had, i probaly just would have bought one from him. i didnt think i coud make it turn out as nice as it did.:thumb:

the material is a stainless steel sheet metal.

i never thought about making one for the plug cover. But that is a great idea. i am in the process of cleaning up my engine. i am getting my valve cover powdercoated black, with polished letters.

and about the venting. i dont have the vent tube. and when i installed my dejontool, i didnt have one to install. so i am trying to rig one together soon. i know i shouldnt vent, but i have no problems for everyday driving. and i havent gone to the track yet, and before i do i plan on getting the recirc. going.

i plan on getting some stainless steel bolts to put on there so it looks a bit better.

I am probaly going to make another one, because this one isnt PERFECT. and i want one that is perfect. i will let you know. but if i make a perfect one, this one might be fore sale. and if any of you really want one. i might make a few, for shits and giggles.

but all in all, i was also very happy with the final product, for my first time ever fabricating anything, or first time ever working with sheet metal. thanks for the compliments.

I think the only thing that could make it better... is an etching of the DSM logo on top. :thumb: Nice!

I'm planning on ripping my OEM P.O.S. heat shield off and wrapping things up with that funny thermal tape and stuff

Be careful. Thermal wrap holds in moisture and can cause parts to rust and premature failure.

looks good ! i used to have sumthin like that. mine was 3mm alumin, press broke.. then tig welded seams.

Dave, yours looks very good. i didnt feel like welding up the seams and then smoothing it out, because i am not a very good welder. so i just spot welded them. I am wondering now if i should have used aluminum, because i think the stainless will turn funny colors. oh well, we shall have to see. thanks for the compliments though.

being stainless,it will turn colors.. but i kinda like that look

Yeah, i think i will liek it too, if it turns out like some headers done. all purple and stuff. it makes it look kind of authentic. thanks for the compliments

i used the dimensions he gave me and figured out the exact angles for people to make the heat shield with...start with cutting it out on paper to make sure you made the angles right, if it folds together perfect trace it on to stainless steel then get a shop to press the 90° bends in, where the top and sides meet, and weld the seams after that, you are good to go

how do you polish things? i haev a grinder that i used when i ported my turbo following Vfaqs instructs and than i used a buffer type head on the grinder to kinda polish the inside out a bit..but how would i get to kinda look like a mirror finish..i plan on takin my heat shield and my valve cover off to grind polish them to make them atleast look clean but how do i give it a chrome look or whatever?

here's a good way to sound dumb:

why?.. just trying to go for a clean look? or does the heat shield really do much?.. heh..

my 1.8 eclipse didn't have one, and i kinda liked it that way....

thanks :) :p
