2G-specific Performance difference when swapping the stock T-25 to a T-28 or 16G?

Hey all,

I was just curious about how this works -- Say I'm running stock boost (about 14 PSI) on the stock T-25 in my Talon. If I were to do a swap to a Big T-28 or Big 16G, and keep the same boost (14 PSI), what kind of performance difference would there be, and how much of one? Because those turbos flow more air, my guess is that I would notice a healthy performance gain even at the same PSI, but I'm still a little cloudy on the finer points of turbo principles. :o

Also, considering that currently I have a totally stock fuel system, would upgrading the pump be enough to support a T-28 or 16G at that boost?

Thanks guys!

Most stock 2G's run around at 11psi, so 14psi ( which is safe on a stock fuel system ) would be a noticable difference. It would really be felt after 5K, where the T25 would stop flowing enough air. The T25 is just too small for our engines at that boost. It's a 1000-5000rpm turbo, leaving 2500rpm's worthless.

Thanks for the reply.

What I'm still wondering though, is in general (through the entire RPM range), if you compare a T-25 at 14 PSI with a T-28 or 16G at 14 PSI, will there be a large performance increase just by having the better turbo on there at the same PSI?

Thanks!

When i upgraded my turbo i didn't have many supporting mods. I got a big 16g and noticed a huge difference. I only ran about 10 psi on that and it was a hell of alot quicker than the t-2small at even 16 psi. It is a great upgrade and i definitely recommend it. The mid to top end power is rediculous compared to the stocker.

You are flowing alot more air at the same PSI. You will Deff. see gains at ANY level with an upgrade.

The T-25 flows around 250cfms, where as the 14b is around 405cfm. The 16g's flow around 505cfms.

More flow more powa!!

Well you know that intense pull you have down low? It will now be noticed around 3K-3500. But you get it all the ### to redline, and it will pull harder and harder as you climb to redline. My advice to you is at least get a 190 or 255 lpm fuel pump. You should do fine up to 16psi on 91 pump, and 18psi on 104 race gas. With that exact setup I run fat and have to lean my afc out by -10 in HI throttle. Good luck.

Yes there will be a nice performance gain because of the fact that the compressor inside the turbos listed (other than the t25) are actually larger and EFFICIENT (sp) as compared to the t25.

cliffs: Yes you will notice something with any turbo other than the t-2-small...
