Well first of is there even any dsmers in MO??? I might be moving out to branson in the beggining of the summer and had a few questions about it out there. From what I am told by my gf's parents branson actually has alot to do, is this true?? Is there other stuff to do is Southern Missouri? I have a couple other questions maybe you could help me out a bit, I will be visiting the area in a couple months just to see what its like so that should give me a better idea of the place but on with the questions.

Are there any tracks located in Southern MO?
Are they full 1/4mile tracks or just 1/8mile?
What are the smog laws for the state?
What about tint/front license plate laws?
How are the cops?

Any help would be greatly apprecieted.

Branson has tons of shit to do. Has a nice sized lake, party's all the time, endless water parks, endless go-cart places. Kind of a vacation town.

MOKAN Drag Strip is full 1/4 mile. Not sure on exact location. Also their is Kansas City International Raceway up here in NKC.

There is Inspections and Smog laws. Just like any other state with them. I have ways around Inspections. Since I have a turbo-back I don't have any issues with the law.

I believe Tint does not matter anymore. Can be any percent. I will ask my friends dad since he is the Cheif of Police here in Belton.

There is a Front Plate Law. But I have not had a Front Plate on my car since I bought it in Sept. I have been pulled over three times in that time. Cops did not say a thing. But I guess it just depends on the situation and officer.

Cops vary from city to city.

I live only like 2-3 hours away from the Branson area. Give me a call bro when you hit up Missouri. We have tons of DSM guys spread out the area. Good luck :thumb:

wow a reply already, let me first say thanks for the info. Is there only one lake in branson? My gf's parents just bought a house on a lake so I am guessing its the one you are talking about.

As for smog laws how strict are they, comming from cali it seems as if most states have it way easy as far as smog and inspections go, I am asking this becasue my car is well beyond the state of going back to stock just to get the car registered over there(check out my mod list) If I put on a cat in my exhaust would I be able to pass smog?? As far as ting/front plate go I am not to worried i'll put it on and if I get in trouble then I will take it off, have done it countless times out here already, so doing it once more wouldn't be much of a problem.

One last thing how is the weather out there, my gf's mom said that it wasn't to much colder than here(50ish outside+ rain) but I thought the midwest got pretty damn cold?? maybe that's just one of my misconceptions. I should be out htere in a couple months to get a feel of the place so me and my girl can decide weather we move out there or stay here in cali, but i'll let you know and if I do move out there we should all meet up, we have a pretty nice tight nit group of dsmers out here and it would be pretty cool to have that out there.

oh if you want to take the smog discussion of the boards and to pm's that's fine too, if someone was asking about it in cali I wouldn't want to talk about it to much on the boards either.

Missouri is not very strict at all. It all depends on what shop/place you go for your inspection. Engine mods won't matter at all. Only thing that matters in a inspection are:

All proper working lights, blinkers, tail light's brake lights, third brake light etc..

Horn that works

No cracks in center of driver's front view. No larger than a sheet of paper in the center.

Working seat belts, harness etc

Working wipers

Proper running gear like ball joints, suspension

And semi-good tires.

Exhaust....One down fall. Must have a Cat. But most people have ways around that.

That is the most of the stuff we look for. I have my MVI License and do inspections all day. If you would like we can move the dicusion to PM's about Inspections and such.

Well lets see... I have 5% window tint all the way around and a tint strip accross the front windshield, i dont run a front license plate because i think that is pretty f-in stupid when 1 mile from my house, the arkansas people don't have to. I've never "actually" had my car inspected for anything, since i know the inspection guy, he just writes me out a new sheet. I don't have a cat, and sometimes if im going to the track or whatever i don't even have a front pass. headlight. I've never gotten pulled over for ANY of those things, and my record is spot free.
All in all, its a pretty easy state, ESPECIALLY compared to california.

this area gets cold, Im about 30-45 min from branson depending on traffic.

But the weather is deffinately unpredictable. Last week it was in the 30's and 40's, today it hit 70. Its gone from snowing one day to 75 the next before, and im only 16 so my experience isnt long.

As to the rules, I ran open exhaust out of the downpipe for a while with no problems, but i did have an officer say something to my about my license plate up front when i got pulled over about 3 weeks after I got the car.

When ya get here let us know, ive met a couple of the dsmers but ive still got tons to meet. Hopefully at the end of the summer ill be getting a 2g awd if i can find one. I wanna take my FWD to the track tho before it either goes bye bye or gets the motor ripped for the 6bolt rebuild and sent to the 2g

man those aren't what I would call inspections haha....man cali really is that bad I guess. Alright y'all thanks for the info and the quick responses and hopefully I will be meeting some of you in a few months, just look for the silver 2g that spins them through third :D

there's two tracks in this area. there's one in asbury, mo called mokan speedway. then there's one in rogersville, which is like 15 minutes away from springfield. mokan is about a 2 hour drive for you, but i like it better out of the two.

anyone goin to mokan this sunday eh?

Of course there are DSMer's in the "Show Me State." We'll show you how we get shit done dawn herrre.

Seriously, don't listen to these guys telling you that it gets cold over here. Sure it does get cold, but pretty mild than some of the other midwestern staes like Illinois and Minnesota. However, the weather is VERY unpredictable. It can be shining at 9AM with ZERO clouds on track day and in 4 hours it can be raining cats and dogs with hail in the mix. ;) The weather channel will be your friend, even them miss the weather frequently.

I am in Springfield and there are 2 dragstrips that I go to. There's Ozark International Raceway (OIR) that is located in Rogersville - about 20 minutes from me ( www.ozarkdragstrip.com ) and there's the other track in Asbury (on the border of Missouri and Kansas (hence MoKan dragstrip) - www.mokandragway.com that is about 90 miles from me. Branson is a neat little town BUT a huge tourist destination, so don't get shocked at the volume of traffic and people in the summer. :thumb:

There are really no tint laws but if you have 5% on the front windows and you get a bad cop, you will get grief. The same thing applies to the front plate. You have to display the front license plate or else, you could get ticketed if you do not. Again, this varies with the cops. Lots of people don't display them. Shit, I have never seen any C5 vette with one. Here in Greene county, we are not smogged. :thumb: You only need to pass a regular MVI and you are good to go. There are some other counties in Missouri that get smogged/refereed though so you will need to dig up on that.

I will try and make it down for the Sport Compact races in April if the car will be together by then. :thumb: My car doesn't like Mokan though. The last time we Springfield guys were out there in November, we all broke our cars. Pewter broke his WS6, Chris pulverized his C5's rear end and I detonated the car pretty good. I drove her 90 miles home though so I wasn't too mad. :shhh:

There are about 15 DSMers in Jefferson City which is about 60 miles from Branson.

branson is more than 60 miles away from jeff city. its 30 miles away from springfield, and jeff city is a few hours away from springfield...

anyways ya there's some dsm drivers in missouri =\

Diambo: Ya I figured that there would be way more traffic in the summer time since it is a vacation town but I guess its just something I have to deal with...hell it can't be as bad as rush hour in the bay area or L.A. area(just the thought makes me cringe). As for smog do you have a sight that you know of that has the different counties and its smog laws I tried a quick search earlier but couldn't find anything...I'll check for the MO dmv site and see if that gives me any info.

Thanks again everyone, this move is starting to sound not so bad...I have a feeling I will have to get used to the lingo out there and you guys are probably going to want to kill me for saying "hella" all the time but its all good.

i know there are a bunch of MO DSMers because i have A HUGE customer base there. Don't you go mess that up for me Zach. LOL j/k. I've been to St. Louis and it's a great place, good food too.

Good luck in your move man.

depending who you go to, most people dont' give a shit about smog laws. i know some meechanics where i live and they just make me pay them 12 bucks, then they just sign the peice of paper....

I live in St Louis and there are quite a few DSMers around here for sure. Of course there is some rice, but there are some nice N/A's and turbos. My buddies and i are always up for whatever, so if you're ever near stl hit me up with a PM. As far as tracks go, there is always Gateway International Raceway which is right across the Mississippi river in East St Louis. Every tuesday all summer they have "test and tune" drag racing, basically street tire only. Hope you enjoy MO

Can anybody confirm if this is for other states? http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1831925&postcount=17

I'm thinking of starting one of these things http://www.petitiononline.com/caplate/petition.html.

I'm always wondering, why is the DMV/Police/Goverment such A-holes about tinting, front plates, little petty things such as this.

Several tracks, a bunch of lakes, and the best entertainment around.

And a good Mitsubishi dealsership in Springfield. Lipscomb. I've had to go there several times for those obscure dealer only parts.

Glad to have you.

I think he was talking to me, but damn thsi thread is old haha. I am actually still living in Cali at the moment. I ended up getting a higher paying job and am going to school for it here so I am stuck in this state for another 4 years. I did visit out there and its beatiful, but I think branson might be too rural for me. Springfield I could do Branson not all the time haha.
