I live in Martinsburg, and I love my car to death, but I don't know what to do. I would absolutely love it if somebody would help me tune my car/do the free mods. I know absolutely NOTHING about cars, and I really want to learn. Teach me? I am willing to travel, maybe next weekend? Depending on what my taxes look like after bills this week, I would most likely be willing to pay somebody to help me. I have pretty much no tools aside from some screwdrivers, and not really much money to get any. My car seems to have lost it's edge, and any help would be appreciated. Depending on when I work, the furthest I would be able to travel would probably be around Gaithersburg, anywhere closer would be great.
Thanks guys :dsm:

best mod for a dsmer is a decent set of tools. (something is bound to break) and the best way to learn is hands on if you want to do things yourself. the best advice I have is to read and learn as much as possible, try to attend some local meets, GMU is on the 11th, you can get alot of helpful tips and talk to others that have been in your situation.

see you there

I'm not going to be able to make it to the GMU, but I am organizing a meet next Saturday at Mason Dixon Dragway. Hope to get some good tips.

The GMU meet you should try to make desperately. A lot of dsmers will be there. Hell, if you wanted I could bring my tools and you could take care of some simple maintenance and mods at the meet.

im not a 2g guy but if you go out to the gmu meet i would be more then happy to help you out on a few things

Hmmm...I started my new job today, and the shifts are 12 hours (2 a.m. to 2 p.m.), and I'm not sure whether or not I work. I will know by most likely this Friday, and I will see. I may not be able to go to the Mason Dixon Dragway now, but I may be able to go to the GMU meet. It's two hours away, but it would be worth it to get my car fixed. Any ideas on what I should buy? As in hoses, clamps, belts, spark plugs, and what not? I do not know what kind/how many to get, but I'm sure you guys could help. I do not want people to do the work for me, I want them to do it with me so that I can learn. I am not trying to seem selfish or n00bish, but I am a n00b and would rather learn from the experts rather than ruin my car. Also, what fluids should I buy? I am pretty sure I need tranny fluid and filter, I know I need a fuel filter (no clue how to do either). Oil is okay, I change that every 2.5k miles. I'll see what I can do with my job. And thanks for all of the responses, I look forward to meeting all of you (if I can).

Whats wrong with the car, what needs to be getting it done to get ready.

IF it is stock

NGK BPR6ES
Fuel Filter OEM
Probably new wires, depending on when theyve been done.
Intake Filter probably
Boost gauge with vacuum hose and tee
Tranny, diff, and transfer case fluid
Radiator fluid
This is just a startnig list
Any repairs needed to be done to the car?
If not then I would suggest....
1g bov with uicp
manual boost controller
2.5 or 3-inch turbo-back exhaust

I will be having a few parts for sale at the GMU meet like a 1g bov with uicp and some other things, and there will be plenty of vendors there to help you out too and to order parts from.

Fluids we can show you how to do at the GMU meet, but I would suggest not doing them AT the meet as if we spilled fluid all over GMU parking lot, I dont think they would be too happy. Other stuff we can take care of real easy, or at least show you how to.

LOL, I know I can't change the fluid there. Thanks for the list...I'll try and pick some of that stuff up, and I will definitely be there. I do have next weekend off, so my fiance and I will probably go together, if she doesn't work. And yes, the car is stock, aside from a redone exhaust sysytem. But that's it. How much do you think it will cost to fix her up?
I have a few questions though:
What wires, not really sure what you mean there.
Also, what is diff?
And only one NGK BPR6ES?

Thanks a lot for that list. I got my tax refund check yesterday, so I will go to the parts store today, and get what I can.

No, the ngk bpr6es is the spark plug part number. diff is differential. youll see it abreviated alot because its hard to spell! LOL. hell, I probably spelled it wrong. dude you could get away with some oem wires from Mits. or if you have the $ get some msd or magnecore or what ever you like. If your ever in NC hit me up.

oh yea, I hope you know what your getting into. alot of $ and coursing! Hopefully it will be fun though. My dsms are usally not running more than running.

my dsm is running, dont get so worried.... In fact the only time my car has ever been down is when I hit a curb and when I put her down myself for upgrades.

Wires, those are spark plug wires, get some OEM or some accels, MSD if you want to spend the money.
NGK BPR6ES is the spark plug number, you will need 4
Diff as pointed out above is differential.

PS- Bring money to the GMU meet, you never know when you can pick up a good deal. I got a 1g bov last time there for 20 bucks!

Ok, I thought that I needed more than one spark plug, I thought 4, but didn't want to sound dumb. I do kinda know what I'm getting into, but whatever it is will be worth it. I don't feel worthy of owning a DSM without knowing what it is and how it works. Is there anywhere to get NGK's other than the internet, I don't have any cards to use on here. I'll see what I can do about getting the OEM stuff, I get a discount at Rockville Mitsu, and so does my father-in-law, so I'll try. I look forward to seeing you guys at the meet, and I'll just listen and learn when I can. I will definitely bring money with me, whatever my wife lets me, and try to leave there with a better running car. Thanks again for your help guys, I appreciate it.

no you will need 4 plugs ans wires! the mits stuff will do just fine till you add some serious horses, then you can switch to the bpr7es, a colder plug.

and d eclipse99, thanks for reiterating what I posted

Hey man, I have a shop in Ocean City. If you are ever down this way. I would be happy to help with your car. I wont charge you. I like teaching people about cars.

Name a time and place and hit me back.

Maybe suggest a swap meet to Team Trinity located in Virginia. They are the leading guys that hold dsm meets in this area.
