I am entering James Madison University in the fall as a freshmen and they do not provide parking for us. Anybody have any ideas on what to do with my dsm. I am thinking if worse comes to worse finding a storage place and paying for that, but its expensive.

Also, is there an active car scene down there? I live in Northern Virginia and it just seems like the boonies out there, no offense. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

hello, my names justin, ill hopefully be a junior in the fall. welcome to JMU.....just me and Travis that i know of that are regulars here on Tuners, showed T the thread he said he knows you already. But anyway, there isnt really a scene, only Ricers. But i along with many other car enthusiasts at JMu are part of Madison Motorsports. www.mmsports.org we love cars and do scenic drives along with autocross events. Travis is the only one big into drag racing in the club. but we are all a descent group of guys. last year there were 2 supras, a turbo II RX7, a 3rd gen RX7, a few BMW enthusiasts, and a turboed Merkur. anyways, im the white 2g turboed RS with a full body kit on campus. I live in squire hill, and would be happy to show you around. as far as yoru car is concerned.....you can park it off campus in a apartment complex called hunters ridge that is a gravel lot. but if your afraid of dings i would say leave your ride at home. small price to pay. I would tell you to park at my complex, there are plenty of visitor spots, but visitor spots arent always guaranteed, i could always save you one if you need to move your car is the need be. Wow, sorry for the long post.

This is the JMU car club. They are a wide ranging group of past, present, and future students. Most members have a passion for track events and autox's.

I had a house on mainstreet this past year but because you are a younging who is just now attending the school I can't offer my spacious lot out to you...my lease ends in July.

Parking in apartment complexes are at a premium...you will need to know someone with a house kind enough to let you store your car there if you want to even have a chance of bringing it down. I'm going to tell you that you really need to leave your car at home if you're going to be living on campus. There is not a single reason to have it there.

For one thing...you will be walking or busing to every class. When you leave campus to go party...you will be walking or busing or catching a cab (use ABC Cab...I used to drive for them and they are better than yellow cab). The only place you will ever want to go to that is not campus oriented is wal mart...and there is a bus for that. Use the bus...meet girls. JMU is known for that.

But actually...as I remember you've got a girl. So the only other possible reason you'd want your car in town is to drive away from Harrisonburg to see her. And if that is your plan....good luck with it. Like I said...parking is not something a freshman is going to come by easily.

Also...the local scene is lame. The cars are slow and riced out like it is their job. Cars owned by students are mostly unmodified...and those that are are usually either part of MM or idiots. I break it down like that because that is how it is.

Either way man...JMU is a good place to be. Just don't party all the time like myself and you'll get through it.

Thanks a lot guys. I would really like to take my car down, but it sounds really grim.

Sad to hear that its mostly ricers. I am not big into drag racing, although I do it every now and then, im mostly into autocross and road racing. Anybody doing the July 9th autocross at Ousborn Park High School or the Hyperfest Hyperdrive on July 16th?

OMG!!!! Sweet, I can take my car. I got in the new freshmen dorm (Rockingham Hall) that allows Freshman parking and has its own bathroom and glass sliding door. I am so excited now.

Thanks for the help guys.

thats cool. only thing that sucks is you are here * (ie Egypt)

Freshmen classes are here* (ie antartica)

its that hotel they were renovating behind the subway/gas station on port republic.

Anyone know any good places to work on my car? Or anyone in the next few weeks want to help me install my 16g? Ive got most the tools I need except for a drill to modify the oil drain. If we can't find a place tho and someone still wants to help me, we can do it in the parking lot of rockkingham hall according to my advisors.

my place is always open... it just a paved parking lot.......no garages available around here though. I saw you drivin up port republic earlier today. But just hit me up on AIM white97dsm.
