How are the horns normally mounted to the car?

I'm having issues with the horn on my 1995 GSX. I suspect the wiring going into the horns is damaged and just needs to be repaired. Can't test voltage at the horn itself yet to confirm, but the relay clicks nicely.

Problem being: Apparently the previous owner moved the horn. My factory manual says there should be 1 in front of the driver's side wheel. There is not. However, I have 2 of them jammed together/somehow attached to the bottom edge of the bumper cover over on the passenger side of the car...

The goal is to figure out how to remove them and IRAN the wiring that's currently inaccessible (as it's short and stuck behind the horns).

I can't see in that space well at all, other than to see that part of the wiring is looking rough. Not sure exactly how the horns are mounted or how to attempt removal. Do the horns have some sort of mounting tab or hole? Any pictures so I can see what it's supposed to look like to give me some idea of how I might be able to remove them?

Horns are a chassis ground. So there should be only one (power) wire running to the horn.

Now,Replacing the wiring and re-mounting the horn to the chassis should do the trick.Remember that chassis ground tho means wherever you bolt it onto the chassis that its free of paint and stuff like that.

You can put the horns wherever you want, you could even mount one in the passenger headrest if you wanted to be a dick to your passengers.ROFL

Well, since they're bolted to plastic (through some unknown manner, which is my biggest problem) and they used to work perfect, I'm bound to find a second wire *somewhere* in this mess! :) I'll have to hunt around and see if they ran a wire from somewhere nearby to be a ground...

Gotta be nice to my passengers, stock cup holders are gone, need people to hold my drinks while I'm driving!

I fiddle around with it some and it seemed that wiring, despite being very junky was still good. Now spare horns to test with, so I dropped it off at the electrical shop down the street. I had them redo the horn wiring all professional like (since it's exposed to a lot of the elements down there I wanted the best possible job). They also determined that the horns (and only the horns) were bad and swapped them in for me. My DSM is now street legal again (horns are a required item here in Ohio). :)

Street legal makes me laugh.

Makes me think of all the things i could get pulled over for not having.LOL

Yeah, I can't get away with that stuff. I do SCCA Road Rally events and meeting the letter of the law is required, with "safety" items (of which the horn is considered to be one) being specific checked items on the pre-event safety list...

You were wondering where the stock 2g horns are with pics. Since others may come here for the same reason based on your title, here they are:
Regular horn is in front of LF fender (on a bracket behind the AC receiver-dryer): http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=153907&d=1364104464.

Theft alarm horn is on firewall behind battery: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=83503&d=1211325190.

Cool. Interesting to see one that actually matches the manual. My car is completely different for all the horns, apparently one of the three previous owners did NOT like the stock horn locations and decided to move them all. :)

1995's had different locations than above. (Not sure why there are two theft alarm horns listed on this page of ASA.)

Even more interesting. My factory '95 manual shows the locations that you did in the first post. The locations actually in use in my car don't match the manual, nor the '95 specific locations that you just added. :) Also, the horn types I have are different from this one that you just added (my MR2 uses that type though...).

I do have one of the VERY early '95s though, so I guess all bets are off... I've got the vented rear discs and the 2ga front license plate bracket doesn't fit (I ended up using a '94 1g front license plate bracket, which fits fine!).
