I was driving home from work yesterday, and my 1990 Eagle Talon TSI started acting like it was missing while driving. It felt like the engine would cut out every few seconds. At a stop sign, idling it was fine. Drove about another mile and it almost felt the transmission went out at first. So I pulled over and I was able to get it in gear to get it to a side street. Popped the hood and one of the turbo bolts had come loose. I got the bolt tightened up and checked the others. Got about a quarter mile down the road and it started doing the same thing and felt like the engine was gonna fall right out of the car. I pulled over again and had it towed home. I have check the turbo and it spins pretty easily and there isn't an excessive amount of shaft play. The transmission has fluid in it. The hoses were all connected. The bolts are all tightened down. I just need some ideas on what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. :banghead:

Engine/trans mounts maybe, is it all coming from the engine bay? have you checked the support bearing under the car? if your car has it, my VR4 has one.

from a dead stop with your hood open, pull the e brake up and put a little load on the engine. I.E. put it in first gear with e brake up and apply a little gas along with releasing the clutch a little. Watch the engine as this is done to see how much movement there is. excessive movement could mean busted mounts.

Not saying this is your problem, but could be a possibility and something to check.

Maybe to much Tran fluid? Double check fluids. Does it happen while normal driving or in boost? I'm guessing vacumm leaks. Check your timing/balance shaft belt aswell.

Also check all your electrical connections on your wiring harness, ptu clip, injector clips, coil pack clip and do a boost leak test. just start with the easy stuff and work your way to the hard stuff.

When was the last tune up? Plugs, wires, blt, oil change, compression test. You could knock out multiple areas doing this and still be doing proper maintenance on the vehicle.

While changing plugs and wires you can check your getting good spark from the coil. The oil change speaks for itself, the blt covers the air section of "air, fuel, compression, spark"... after that you're down to sensors and fuel issues if it doesn't clear up.

Any cel?

The trans fluid is at the proper level. The oil is fine. I check it regularly because it does leak oil. All the electrical connectors are fine. It happens under normal driving. I did pull off my turbo because I the last few days, my turbo has been sounding different but I was going to check it out over the weekend when I had more time. Unfortunately the car broke down before I could do that. Also I took my exhaust manifold off and the turbo had a few cracks inside it with one pretty good crack that is what I would consider wide. I'm going to boost leak test it this weekend.
