Extended wheel studs needed?

Ill be using 8mm spacers for my wheel setup, but not sure if the stock wheel studs will be long enough to torque down. Is it mandatory to upgrade to extended wheel studs?

Yes!, I have 5mm, and 10mm spacers installed, and both required elongated studs. Did your spacers come as a kit? most reputable kits already come with studs, and are hubcentric.

First, you want to find out if you will be able to remove your rear hubs. If you can't, then you want new studs that are only a little bit longer than OE. If you can get your rear hubs off, then get the long ARPs from a place like RRE.

Note: it's easy to install long studs in the front without taking the hub off. The issue is only in the rear.

Went on Amazon, to order the Ichiba Kits, about 50-70% cheaper than anyone else selling them. 8mm will be difficult to find, as most kits go up in 5mm increments 5, 10, 15 etc.

+1 on being able to remove the rear hub, PITA.
+1 on the ARP studs, but they can be a bit pricey

For Cinder probably, but then again he lives in Iowa, we are blessed in CA to have very little corrosion, and rust on our native cars, since it hardly ever rains, and we don't salt the roads in winter.

It's not too bad, but can turn into a problem in a heart beat.

Well, I'm planning on running 17x9 +45 wheels with 255/40 tires...I've heard of people running 8mm spacers to clear the rear knuckes.
Any input or help on that?

One of the easiest ways to see what size spacer to buy is to get the wheels and tires, then use washers to space it out until you get the clearance you need. Then buy spacers in that thickness. No guessing/wondering involved.

Yeah. But SAE washers are usually all the same thickness.

Even if they aren't all the same thickness, we have these things called "rulers" in Iowa that you can use to measure the stack height when you've found the right number of washers. Ask nicely and I'll send you one.

nope. have that, not all 255 are the same the ones i have are 10.25 section width, anything more than that rubs.

Running 255/40r17 17x9 +45 with 8mm spacer and ARP extended studs with project kicks open ended nuts. i have like 2mm of clearance with 2gb knuckles, oh and get prepared not just to roll the fender but to pull the if you just roll them the fender its gonna eat a piece of your tire.

But where did you purchase your spacers?
The ones mentioned above I was only able to find them in what seems to be common Euro sizes.

I was just yankin' chains since I actually did 99% of the work on my DSM in PA, not Iowa.

I needed longer (and stronger) studs up front, I just ordered some from Racing Brake. They have two options that are shorter then the ARPs, they are for EVOs, but they should fit our hubs:
