Hello everyone, I have given my AUTO trans a flush, new filter, and end clutch. Unfortunatly my transmission is slipping in almost everygear now under power. Do I need a new tranny or torque converter?

when flushed it would be wise to measure how much you pulled from the tranny so thats how much you should put back in (if it had no leaks and you knew it was serviced properly), the reason is there are 2 types of flush methods and they pull different amounts of fluid out.

2 of the most common symptoms of slipping is either the tranny is starving for fluid or there is too much fluid, when it has too much fluid it reacts as it has none because when pressure increases it actually foams up and the bubbles compress preventing it to stay in liquid form to be able to crate pressure but when its too little well of course it cant create pressure as its just pressurizing air, its almost like bleeding your brakes or the lack of it.

heres a checklist questionare i made for you:

when you flushed did you go thru all gears briefly while draining?

did you run the engine on idle and ranthe tranny dry for about 30 seconds after all fluid came out?

tell me how did you do it, maybe that would help us identify what went wrong if it was a persons error.

I just put a bucket under it over night and let it drain because with where i am working on my car i cant let it idle in the garage :( and when i put fuild in i put about 4.3 quarts in.

ok well by what you just said you did not perform a flush, you only drained what was in the pan.

You must know that 85% of the fluid stays in the tranny even after you leave it over night draining because all you did was empty the pans fluid, its just not going to come out because its in the lines/passages and what not.

so it seems you over serviced it and its doing some serious foaming action like i mentioned before.

you are going to have to start from scratch and follow my instructions if you want it done right:

1- drain your tranny oil pan

2- your tranny has 2 hoses that sends and recieves fluids thru to the cooler so you will remove the hose that connects to the cooler/the one that should shoot out fluid, not the one thats sucks in fluid.

3- start the car and let it idle, it will start pushing out all the fluid out VERY FAST.
(if you pulled the sucking hose fluid will come out from the cooler)

4- go thru the gears breifly (2-3 seconds) in P-R-N-D-2-1 and back again to drive.

5-you must also watch the fluid as it drains you dont want it to run dry for to long. (30 seconds is the standard, but no more than 1 minute)

6- shut engine off.

7-close the oil pan bolt.

8-with the engine off service the tranny with (1992 rs auto) 13 pints or 6.5 quarts of transmission fluid. yes thats not a typo its alot when you flush it because its a full flush. (i think is about 5 dollars a qt to.)

hope this was helpful for you.

yes sir. right about 4.3 is what your engine takes for oil, 4.6 to be exact. but not the tranny
