I bought a 95 GSX w/ a blown head gasket, so I replaced that as well as the timing belt. When I put the head back on, the car is extremely hard to start. First off, it won't start unless I pump the gas pedal, and even then I have to keep the pedal pressed down to keep it on for a few minutes... After a while, it will run on its own, but only for a few minutes, then it sputters out and dies. Before it dies however, I noticed white smoke coming out between the back of the motor and firewall. It looks like everything is hooked up (no loose lines), but I did just notice that a vacuum hose near the steering column looks glossy (either something is leaking, or it's residue from the smoke when the car is running). I'm not sure exactly where to start checking things over, so any input is welcome & appreciated. TIA

++1 on the compression test. What led to the blown head gasket? did you use a filler gauge and a striaght edge to check for warpage on the head? if you had it milled and they milled enough off you would likely need a spacer. yes guys there is a limit on how much can be milled off before we requier a Spacer. (im a mechanic at a shop that specilizes in mistu) but do a compression check. its not hard and only takes a few minutes. Any question just ask. Allot of people on this site have knowledge.:thumb: good luck.

I bought a new head since I the old one had bent valves in it. And I'm not sure how the hg went bad, I bought the car with it already blown... but it did fire right up when I took it off the uhaul and into the garage... so i'm sure I messed something up in the installation, just not sure exactly where to start looking. I'll check compression and see where that's at.

Timing belt may have jumped. Been there before and symptoms were almost identical. Make sure all marks line up on the crank and cams.

timing belt would also make since. Did you ever make a video. I am curious as to the location of this white smoke is.
