Alright, so I seem to be a little stuck and not sure where to go from here.

I just purchased a 2g talon that I'm having some starting issues with. I just did a timing belt, plugs, wires, injector seals, and battery. After I put everything back together the car won't start.

I hooked my multimeter to the battery terminals and it's reading about 12.5v. When I turn the key, nothing happens at all. If I hook jumper cables up to it and turn the key, all the accessories/lights come on, but the car still won't start.
It kind of sounds like it want's to for a couple seconds, you can hear a whiiir whiiiiir, and then nothing.

I checked all the fuses, the ground for my alternator, and as I said before, the battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have another battery to try? Sounds like it has a dead cell. The fact that you're getting power from the jump box and it's enough to get it to attempt to turn over tells me there is something up with the battery. OR your jump box is low on charge.

I do not have another battery. I'm actually jumping it with my other car. I thought about the possibility of my new battery having a dead cell, but that doesn't seem to explain why it's reading 12.5v, and not getting any accessories/lights coming on without jumper cables hooked up.

Have tested your starter?

I have not tested my starter. That was in my thought process, but I didn't think a bad starter would cause me to have no accessories/lights without the jumper cables being hooked up either.

Thanks for the replies, please keep them coming. I'm at the point of pulling my hair out, trying to figure out this problem.

Spark, fuel compression check all those just in case double check, dead battery?

He said he gets nothing when he turns the key. At this point those have nothing to do with the issue at hand.

I agree, try a new battery and make sure all your connections are good and free of corrosion.

check your voltage drop when you attempt to start it.

I agree with this answer. Do a drop accross the wire to the starter. It shouldn't drop very much voltage at all (preffereably less than .5 volts). If its good, drop the other wires and double check that you are getting good connections.

Also since you mention the lights working when connecting jumpers.. Voltage drop between the battery and the battery teminals.

my battery is drained and even with jumper cables it wont start it does the mentioned "whiir whiir" but i leave the jumper cables on for about 5-6 minutes revving the other engine at about 2k to charge the other battery because at idle it cant feed any "extra voltage" to an extremely dead battery.

try revving the engine @ 2000 rpm charging the other battery with the jumper cables then crank it!

it should start if its only a dead battery issue.

let me know if this helps.

I have seen plenty of batteries come through the parts store that were fully charged but had a dead cell which prevented it from functioning properly.

I also second the notion of checking the voltage drop...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I managed to track it down to a bad ground. The jumper cables were giving me just enough to get the accessories, but because of that ground, it didn't have enough juice to turn over. I replaced the terminals, and fixed that ground, and she starts right up now!
