Just started my car from a long sleep today(6 month)...Had an idle issues first start but soon as i clean the IAC and it started to idle normal. But, i started noticing a knock or tick or some sort coming form the head.

I thought it might of been the lifters because the car has been sitting for so long since summer and the oil is probably gone in the head. I let the car idle for about 15 min and the sound still there. I wounder if the lifters had gone bad?? idk...

Issues with leaks, transmission problems, money problems force me to set this car aside for quite awhile with the new rebuild.:|

Here's whats been done to the motor/head in general. The car probably had 4 miles on the motor. Most of its time the car is in the back yard sitting since summer.:|

Head:

ITM Big bore lifters

BC 272 cams

BC stainless steel

BC springs retainers

What could be the culprit here, Is this normal to all Dsm's here? Please listen to the sound carefully. I've got vids on this. Thank you all for any inputs. Just getting to know my dsm's thats all.

Yeah, i would install 3g lifters (not 3g eclipse lifters)

I also herd that using a heavier weight oil can help quiet the lifters.

try changing the oil. its been sitting for awhile. and if its the first time u really use the engine it takes a while for the tick to go away once u replace the lifters.

Yes sir, the oil is changed b 4 i started the engine. i also mix 5w-30 with Lucas oil stabilizers(use half bottle). I could give it time. But idk if the lifter tick is going to destroy the valves, will it?

Changing oil is where i would start, if it comes down to replacing lifters you can get the JacksonAuto ones. I have used them before with good results, good prices too.

I had a nasty lifter tick and tried different weight of oils no problem solver for it for me. I purchased 3g's and followed the break in procedure and I'm EXTREMELY happy with the results. I now only hear the tick for a second after an oil change or for a second on very cold starts and it's quiet as a knitting grandmother.

You can pick up 3g's realatively cheap off of EBAY 60-70 bucks shipped and their pretty easy to install. I'd get a new valve cover gasket too.

The break in procedure if your curious to know is. You let the engine idle to operating temps and once to normal temp you put your foot on gas and rev the engine to 3k rpm for 3min then take it on a drive and while driving let the rpm range go from idle to say as high as 5k up and down up and down. When done driving if car is still ticking that's fine. When you start car again you should (stongly recommend) let the car once again idle to operating temp then take off for normal driving. I did this exact same break in. On first start up I took car out for a 10min drive then let it sit for the rest of day. I started it up next day it was ticking like mad. Let it warm up at idle to temp took it to work which is a 5 mile drive and it was gone. That was about 3months ago.

I hated stopping at lights in traffic and hearing that ticking made me sick, and extremely self conscious that others where looking at my ticking beast wondering if it was gonna blow.

IMO before u go replacing stuff id change the oil use a heavier weight oil with a FULL bottle of lucas remember that stuff is supposed to replace a quart of oil...its harder on a car sitting then it is atually driving it

I just hope these hydraulic lifters arn't going to ruin the valves or anything. It just seems like you have to bleed them if the car is sitting for a long period for every times? These are upgraded big bore lifters form ITM so i know there shouldn't be any lifter tick issues. I drove the car a couple of times in back in June and i just restarted the car yesterday.

Maybe i haven't give it time or do i need to bleed the lifters again? I need the straight answer form experience if these lifter failure is going to kill my head. idk. and i just find out the ebay 16g(advanced jdm parts) is going out and oil is dripping form the center section of the turbo. shit...
