my clutch fluid is leaking out... found out last night when i pulled into the driveway and the clutch wouldnt ingage or disingage.... the resevior was empty so i filled it back up and it helped a little but still barely drivable..... can someone tell me what i can check for as far as the leak and tell me how to bleed the system?,,,,,, thanks

You have a clutch master cylinder where you refill the fluid which has lines going to the clutch slave cylinder and that's about it. You will either be leaking out of the master cylinder itself, from the line going from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder, or from the slave cylinder itself. You will just have to look to see where exactly it's coming from. As for bleeding the system I always have good luck with just gravity bleeding which consists of simply filling the master cylinder reservior and just cracking open the bleeder on the slave cylinder and letting the fluid run through the lines. Just make sure you don't run out in the master cylinder or you will get air back in the system and have to start over. Let it run through for a while and just close the bleeder and check your clutch pedal to make sure it feels like it is disengaging correctly/all the way.;)

That way of bleeding has always worked for me, but if for some reason it doesn't work you can always try the methods described here.

Hope this helps a little.:)

so i went to blead the clutch... i did the actuall pumpin the pedal method.... just like bleading brakes. in the first few pumps i saw that the fluid was leaking from the mechanism with the rubber boot over it that goes into the tranny right next to the bleeder. it seemed like it was getting a little better at first, but then before long it got dramaticly worse, as in no resistance in the pedal at all. also it when you push the pedal down it stays down.. but you can easily pull it back up with your hand. and finally the mechanasm with the rubber boot over it by the bleeder was not going back and forth like it was before when you push the pedal in an out.. you can push the mechanism in with your thumb but its very hard to do wich is expexted. we tried pushing the mechanism in and then put it in gear while the car was running and it wont go in gear.....

the mechanism i keep refering to i think is the slave cylinder but not sure...

im lost and i dont want to take it to a shop and get raped for money. but i dont see any bolts or anything around this thing so idk how i would take it off to replace it..

please any advice is appreciated....

yes the mechanisum with the rubber boot wich is bolted to the transmisson is called a slave cylinder. and it sounds like it's shot. if its leaking then the seal has warn out it also sounds like the cylinder bore and piston inside are binding up, this needs to be replaced. its not to difficult to do. just to bolts and a rebleed of the system. one other thing that should be checked when replaceing your cylinder, look up behind the clutch peddle linkage where the master cylinder shaft gos through the fire wall. look here to see if ther is any fluid leaking out past the plunger of the master cylinder. after you replace your slave cylinder and have been running on it for a short while check it again to see if your master cylinder isnt starting to give out. this can happen when you replace one part of the system with a new part. simply becouse the oder part of the system then becomes a weaker part in the system, than the new part.

well it is a bit tricky to find but if you notice on the bell houseing where the slave cylinder is mounted the bolt go all the way through the bell houseing and screw into the slave cylinder instead of going through the cylynder and screwing into the bell houseing, so look past the rubber boot and past the tip of the shifting for over the edge of the bellhouseing

In addition to bleeding assistance you can open the cap on the master and pump the slave by hand. If you are by yourself this makes it easier..

If you are going to try and rebuild your slave cylinder I recommend you go ahead and just get a rebuilt or new one from autozone or advance even though it's really easy to do. the parts are kinda' hard to get and the price for a rebuilt one it's pretty reasonable.
It's just sounds like you don't go under your car that much and this will make things much easier..:thumb:
