I have a 1990 eagle talon tsi and it has a really bad loud scratching noise i think its coming from the serpentine belt but i dont no why it would be scratching so loud. I was thinking it could be a pulley. Any suggestions.

Good work on the spelling. It's nice to see that people still know how to type correctly.

Bad work on the "my car's broke, tell me what's wrong with it". Really, if a scratching sound is coming from the belt area on the motor, then look and see if anything seems wrong or out of place.

Keep it on topic guys.

Obviously if you are getting a noise you need to start with the basics. Check to make sure the belts are tight and properly aligned. Check to make sure the belt looks clean and doesn't have cracks on it. Check to make sure the belt isn't glazed in any way. If it screeches while running you can spray degreaser on it to see if it kills the noise. If not available then you can use baby powder or anything of that nature. It will pull the moisture from the belt. If the noise continues you can start the car for a short period of time with none of the belts on. It is always possible it is the harmonic balancer. Has always been an issue with our cars.
