First log, advice wanted

Hey guys, looking for advice on a log. Its not the ideal 2.5k - redline 3rd gear pull but hopefully it still has some useful data in it. Its in 3rd gear from about 2.5k to about 4.5k. The roads are too wet right now to push it but I rarely push it past 4.5 - 5k anyway so hopefully this is a good starting point. Anyway I don't know anything to speak of in terms of tuning yet so bear with me. I've read countless articles about it but until I get hands on experience I tend to not fully grasp it.

Am I logging all of the necessary parameters? Are there any I shouldn't worry about logging?

Mods are current in my profile and I'm running wastegate pressure on the 14 which creeps a little bit.
 
For some reason your front O2 sensor is going bonkers. It also looks like your rear is having issues too. How old are they? What do they do at idle?

As for the log, you can dump the following parameters:

Rear O2, both O2 trims, coolant temp, air intake temp and both fuel trims. Then add in TPS for the next log.

We'll also need your Ne Points and corresponding correction factors from the SAFC. What did you set your TPS trigger points at?
 
I'm sure they are the original sensors, I never replaced them and I'm pretty sure the previous owner never did either. I'll get a log of them idling and post it. I haven't done any corrections with the SAFC yet, I have the Ne points set to:

Will I just be tuning based on timing and the front O2 value? I remember reading that you want to make your short term and long term fuel trim as close to 0 as possible so I was under the assumption I would be using that as the parameter to use to determine whether to add fuel or take it away. Thanks for the help thus far, I'll get another log without the extra parameters and with TPS and post it. Until then is there anything else to say about this log?

Alright, back to the log. You'll mostly be using timing when tuning WOT. As for idle / light cruise, you'll be using STFT and LTFT for the tuning.
 
Yeah, I'm not sure whats going on with that - something with the code I used to format the log that the
thread doesn't like. I would like to tune for cruising right now to maximize my gas mileage and once I
really understand what I'm doing, tune for WOT. Should I log the car idling for a minute or so then cruising around normally for 5 minutes or so? Or is that even too much?

Also how does it work if I make a correction on my SAFC at say 3k rpm for normal cruising but have to
make another for 3k rpm at WOT? It looks like I have some more reading to do! Anyway I'll go out and
get some logs and see what we come up with. Thanks again!
 
Yes. You have to make two different corrections since the ECU will be operating in two different modes. One set for light cruise / idle (closed loop) and another set of corrections for WOT (open loop). Basically, you'll want to set up the logger to read STFT, LTFT and RPM. Sitting in the driveway with all accessories off, such as the AC, lights, etc. Rev the car to the first Ne Point, let's say 1000rpm. Hold it as close as you can and watch the FT's. The goal here is to get the sum of the two to add up to between -5% and 5%.

If you see a positive sum on the logger, you'll need to add airflow with the SAFC and if the trims are negative, you need to remove airflow. Basically, you're trying to do with the SAFC what the ECU is doing. During this time, you'll be making adjustments to the Lo Throttle map on the SAFC.

Once you get the first Ne point done, move on to the next, let's say 2000rpm. Do the same thing you did with the 1k Ne point and continue doing this until you hit the 3 or 3.6k Ne Point. Then just take the 3.6k Ne Point and copy it across the rest of the Lo Throttle table. For example, if the 3.6k Ne Point is -10%, then set every other Ne Point >3.6k to -10%.

Oh, and make sure the vehicle is up to operating temperatures before you do this, as the ECU won't start adjusting the FT's until certain conditions are met.
 
I haven't made any yet, as of right now they are 0 across the board. Going by what you said on a
previous post it looks like i need to add about 5% airflow at idle, 10% at 1.5k, 5-10% at 2k and leave
2.5k and 3k alone. Correct me if this is wrong.
 
I did a boost leak test in the fall before the weather started getting cold and fixed all of the leaks that I
found, with my luck another one has probably popped up somewhere since then though.

They are stock injectors as far as I know, I haven't actually looked at them to verify it but if they were
replaced with larger ones I'm almost certain the previous owner would have said something about
them. He provided a list of mods and work that was done and showed proof in receipts and pictures.

The front o2 was never replaced that I know of, maybe this could be the reason my car feels like a
turd as of late? I've been having some issues with my turbo/wastegate lately as well. I don't have a
boost controller hooked up, I'm just running wastegate pressure but I get bad boost spikes up to 18-19
psi if I get on it above 3500 rpm. If I get on it below 3000 rpm the boost slowly creeps up to 10-11 psi
then sits there until I hit about 4k then starts creeping up even more. Also my boost gauge seems to
be not as responsive as it should be. Its an autometer 20/20 gauge, it seems to "flutter" I guess at
normal cruising and hesitate for a second when I let off the gas before it goes into vacuum. It also
seems to flutter at low boost.

Anyway getting back on topic, after I do another blt should I start with a new o2 sensor and see if the
readings become normal or does it sound like I have another boost leak somewhere thats causing all
of these issues?
 
I would do another boost leak test first, because your trims are all rich. A failing O2 sensor would also result in a rich condition, so that would be the second thing to look at. Can you do a short idle log once the car is warmed up and add Front O2 to the list of logged parameters?

If you're having problems with spike and your boost gauge, I would check all the lines for the gauge along with the gauge itself. You can pull the feed line of the gauge where it hooks in under the hood and pressurize it with a compressor to verify it's working properly.

You might also want to take a look at the wastegate and make sure it's opening properly.
 
It looks like your front O2 sensor is dying. Typically they run between 0.20 and 0.80v, or so, at idle and cruise. I see a lot of places where you are getting 0.08v and it rarely gets above 0.70v.

It looks like that's the problem, at least from what I can see here.
 
Alright, I just ordered a new sensor. I'll post another log when it gets here. Its the $50 denso sensor
from oxygensensors.com, it seemed to be a favorite on here.
 
Finally took some new logs with the new o2 sensor... It seems like the o2 sensor is giving similar readings compared to the old logs. I thought I fixed all of the boost leaks but maybe I haven't. Do these logs look about the same as the last set?

Anyway, the O2 readings look better to me in the last couple of logs. Previously, you were getting a bunch of data points < 0.10v and I don't see any now. Also, you can see that your fuel trims have increased, which is a sign of a dying / old O2 sensor.

But, now we need to fix the high fuel trims. I might have asked this before, but without having to go through all the posts, have you done a boost leak test lately?
 
The formatting on this page is driving me batty too, I'll have to find another way to post my logs so they
are readable but don't screw the rest of the page up.

I did a boost leak test a couple of days ago and found a pretty major one at my blow off valve and one at
my BISS. If I pressurize my IC pipes to 20 psi it leaks down to 10 psi within a matter of 10-15 seconds
and then slowly leaks down to nothing. I'm assuming this is why if i'm cruising on the highway in 5th gear
and build a little boost the car goes through a bucking fit and feels like it doesn't want to accelerate.
I've got a 1g bov to replace my leaking greddy, and I guess all I need is a new o-ring for the BISS.
I'll post back with some new logs when I have all of the boost leaks fixed.
