This is why I don't take my car places to get stuff done

Erie, Pennsylvania
All started when my transmission started to act up again over two months ago. Grinding gears and popping out of gear. So I took it to a place in Erie (ANGELOS TRANSMISSIONS) to have them pull it so I could have Shep build it for me. I did this because I really don't have the tools and space to pull a transmission out. Took them a WEEK to pull it out. So I go and pick the transmission up and a few of the guys started talking to me about my car and how my clutch look great compared to all the others that they pull out. The next Monday I drop the trans off at sheps and it took the a month to build it (a little long but so far it's been worth the wait :thumb:). Dropped the tranny back off and the owner talked to me about the clutch and how it was still in good shape. The next morning I get a call from the idiot that works the front desk saying that he thinks I should replace the clutch and it will only coast like $350 more. I told him that's not a stock clutch and it would be more like $500 and put the old/good one in. Took them ten days for them to call so I can pick it up and I was so pumped. Haven't driven my car in about two months so I was looking forward to it. After paying them $736.56 to take it out and put it back in I got it back with the rear view mirror ripped off and when ripped off I mean ripped! There's chunks of glass on the back off the mirror still so it's not like it feel off. The hub caps for my rims where taken off (I dont know why those even needed to be taken off) and the pins for my axles were given to me so when I'm driving down the road the nut can come loose. I can't even put the pins in because the nut is covering the holes eventhough I shouldn't have to. My brakes are making a god awful noise. My boost controler was cranked all the way down and the drove it over 50 miles which looks like it was all off road. I keep my car clean and it's never been this dirty sense I've owned her. The last thing I've found was that my key for my rims is missing so I can't even take them off to see what's wrong with my brakes. I haven't been so annoyed I a Gerry long time and it just seems like everything's working against me to get to the track this year.

That castlenut looks like has been overtightened, the hole where the pin is supposed to be is in a position that would not stop the nut from coming loose, or they used the wrong nut, so it seems from the picture. I wouldn't have picked up the car given the conditions it's in, that windshield needs replacing, it's like a hole has been punched in it. I would even check if your clutch is still there, from the sound of it someone at the shop was in the mood for a like new clutch kit at your expenses if you ask me.

That's the thing. I didn't even notice the mirror off untill almost home to see of someone was behind me. It's not like that's the first thing you look for to see if it's messed up when you pick up the car. I call as soon as I got home and nobody answered and there's no answering machine. I've got it all documented with a better camera and I have a witness of how my car was when I dropped it off and the same person went and picked it up with me

This is why you find a good honest shop.

Making blanket statements about not trusting shops isn't the way to go.

It was rated the best transmission shop in Erie so it's not a blanket statement when all their reviews are good. Look them up online buddy :thumb: my car only gets the best from me and I wouldn't trust anyone with it and that's why I chose this place.

I would honestly try to get almost all of my money back. It sounds like they ripped you off big time. A new windshield for them will cost around $300 (at least thats what it cost on my 2008 Grand Prix) so they lose half their profit if you get that replaced on their expense. I can't believe it was over $700 to remove and replace a transmission. And on top of that they messed with your boost levels...Sounds like someone didn't know how to turn up the boost and accidentally did the exact opposite...Sorry to hear that happened to you man

The boost was turnned all the way up. I didn't notice it while driving because I was babying her untill the transmission was broken in. I'm going there Monday in the morning but I don't know if I should take the eclipse with me or the camera because of the sound that was coming from my front brake area

Yea i second that it looks like that castle nut is over tightened.

I've always put my cv axle nut on with a pneumatic Impact. It wouldn't have hurt to get the pin in that's for sure.

And no I don't sit there for 20 minutes with it hammering either and never had a problem.

Sue them and get your money back. Had a similar horrible experience with a transmission shop here in Phoenix, AZ

Sued em, took about 6 - 7 months, but eventually I did a till-tap where you have the sheriffs office show up there like 10 deep and they got them to write me a cashiers check LOL.

I've been seriously thinking about it but everyone I talk to that deals with legal stuff says I have to give them a chance to fix it and if the refuse then that's when we can do something about it

Have you talked to an actual attorney?

I doubt you have talked to a real attorney, because they would be ALL over that case.

You don't need to 'give them' another chance there's no LAW that says that. You gave them your money, they did what they did, get your money back now.

Sooner you file the lawsuit, the sooner you get your money back. You can sue anyone at any time for any reason. There's tons of silly lawsuits out there.

Yours however is anything but silly. They screwed you over, so get your money back. I hate to see a DSMer get scammed.

Go down to a court and you can do it yourself it's usually a small filing fee under $100 to get it going.

Well buddy, don't you know online reviews are garbage? Most reviews are by the shops themselves. I meant a good shop recommended by real people.

Still a blanket statement, still useless.

Maybe he's missing the large washer that sits behind the castle nut? I've seen that happen before.

I'm going to the shop tomorrow and I'll keep everyone posted. I'll probably end up doing this.

Keep us posted man. Threaten to sue and if they are not dumber than a box of rocks they will reimburse you on the spot. If they are that dumb, sue for 3x the amount (or the highest in you can go in your small-claims-court)

Chances are, they will ignore the court thinking it's nothing like a speeding ticket no worries. But then you can perform a till-tap and have the sheriff/local police go there with the judgment signed by the judge, if they don't pay up, they start taking their stuff and auctioning it off at a public auction and you get your money back.

So by Pennsylvania law I do have to give a company a chance to right their wrong... Some states don't but Pennsylvania dose. Anyways I called them this morning and started talking to the manager about my concerns were with the car. The second I mentioned my boost controler (yeah I found it cranked all the way down) he started flipping out say "I was lying out of my a$$ and that he never touched any of the turbo parts". So I started to get annoyed with him so I had my mother deal with the guy because he would cut me off everytime I started to talk. My mother talked him into getting a quote for a new windshield and stuff and that I should do check into prices and we can go from there. I called and I was $353 for a new windshield so insurance wouldn't cover that. Drove the car down and took a mechanic for a ride to show him the horrible noise coming from the front. He said it was just the heatshield touching and that he never touched anything in the front end. It wasn't making the noise before and it doesn't sound like a heats wild to me so I'm gonna take it off to be sure. Anyways he said he never even had to take the axles out and that everything in the front end was loose. If he didn't have to touch anything how would he know if things were loose if he didn't have to touch them?... He also said the nuts where tourqed to spec and not with an impact gun. After that the owner said he talked to a few glass places and over time with heat it can make small fractures in the glass behind the mirror and it can cause the mirror to fall. They suggested a rearview mirror adhesive to him and that he will pay for it and hopefully that works and that one of my turbo lines where loose and they fixed that for me (he said he never touched the turbo earlier. He said he never drove the car 50 miles and he wrote down the mileage of when he got it and when he dropped it off. I asked him what he wrote down and he said 190000 something. My car has barley 130000 so I knew he was lying but I can't prove/sue him for the mileage. Anyone can can write down numbers and say that I Brang it in and picked it up with this many blah blah blah. So I have to try this adhesive when it cools down and hopefully works. Also gonna break the nuts loose and make sure the are at the right spec. I trust you guys way more then any mechanic. Still pissed off but until I dothe windshield there nothing else I can do.

700+$ to remove and install? Jeez I charge like 350-400 for awd clutch swap.
That's like 90+/hr. The book only calls for 7.X hours on a awd clutch job. Just see if they will fix EVERYTHING wrong. That's not how a shop owner should talk to a customer. If they don't fix everything you want, sue them.

How the fudge did they drop the trans without touching the CV AXLES? Dumbasses.

That's what I was thinking after reading the whole paragragh. There's no feasible way that I can think of.

I've never heard of heat causing glass to shatter like that. Heat usually causes the adhesive to melt.

It can be done. I've had to a few times when I had no axle socket and when I was helping a friend yank his engine/tranny

Justin, like I mentioned on the phone....lets just go over and burn that place down.

You don't mess with a man's DSM, you just don't.

But seriously, call a lawyer, get a real opinion. You have the cleanest DSM ive seen in person and they obviously had a 50+ mile joy ride in it.
