i have a chance to buy a 99 gsx with stock motor in vehicle. missing cams, exhaust manifold and turbo. but in the trunk there is a brand new 2.3l stroker long block and a fully build head.

About whats the value on that to buy.

Thanks

It's worth whatever you feel like you want to pay for it. Worth is all up to you and the seller.

BTW, you might as well delete your other thread asking the same thing. Duplicates are frowned upon.

You gotta think about how much time and effort it will take to install a new motor and work out the kinks. Also like rlacasse1 said, its really how much you think its worth. IMO i wouldn't pay over 2K for it due to the fact it has a motor in the trunk that may or may not work, and its probably missing a lot of stuff that will nickle and dime you.

There is a motor under the hood. Supposedly cams and Turbo were stolen. The motor in the trunk is the stroker. needs head and block mated

Well if you end up getting this, i may make you a offer on the engine under the hood. Been thinking about getting a 4g63T for my engine stand, it currently has a 302 v-8 on it but i would happy throw it in the floor to put a 4g63 on it

Depending on how good the body is on it...... I would say if you can get it for 7500 or less it's a pretty good deal! Oh yeah Brandon are you a mustang guy pretending to be a dsm guy hahahahahaha. I'm just kidding I love mustangs..... Just keep that on the DL.

i would say $3k at the most if the body is in great condition, because you dont know in the what condition the tranny ecu electrical problem it could have...

Any pics?

Ahh sorry. The only way I convinced my fiance to let me even think about getting it is by giving her the stock motor in it. She has a 97 gsx and its knocking. (Btw that was 1600) Probably going to sell her old motor for parts. Ill have it in the classifieds if I do.

Hmm i may think about the knocking motor you have as long as its serviceable.

Here's the pics I have. Honestly don't like the color or the body kit (body kit mostly) but ill live with it

So you're looking at a car that doesn't run, with a bad body kit, and a chunk of metal in the trunk in unknown condition? $400.

Well find the brand of pistons to get the correct specs for that brand. Also it seems you have arp's, rods should be 36lbs, and idk about the mains. Can easily be found by searching though im sure. If you can get it for less than 3k then get it. Its well worth more in parts, especially with that 2.3 in the back. I would check the crank first, then pull pistons and get new rings. Hone the block, check it, deck it, hot tank it and roll with it.

I didn't see any studs in the pics. Here's from the listing. He got the motor from a friend and was going to put it in but got hit with a lawsuit. But so he says

Up for sale is my 99 gsx. It's full power, leather, sunroof, cc, this car has everything. from full suspension to upgraded brakes, stainless steel brake lines, pillar pod, turbo timer, apexi afc, 2.3L stroker motor, Brian crower stage 2 racing cams, Brian crower titanium valve set including springs and keepers, fmic, obx RAM horn exhaust manifold, wiseco pistons, eagle rods, bored 20 over, ported & polished head.

I'm definitely going to check it out before putting it in. Obvious newb question, since I've never seen the 4g63 internals, but what's the hoop between the main bearings for? oil feed or for strength?

I'm also wondering what can be told to me from the pictures. 7 bolt? 6 bolt? etc

BTW it also comes with a t3/t4. unknows size though

Good luck with it. Sometimes they're worth a leap of faith. Sometimes not. Take care of it, treat it right, and it'll be good to you, regardless of the stigma surrounding these cars.

I bought it but I have 4 other cars, so i kinda hit my car curfew (Parents). Its been in storage since I got it, and it'll probably be there until winter break.

I took the wing off. Here's how it looks on the Jetta LOL

Definitely a turbo 6 bolt block.
Crank does appear to be a 100mm stroke. Make sure all the pistons have at least 0.05" of clearance from the skirt to the 1G oil squirters at BDC and that the big ends of the rods have the same on the block and main caps. The "hoops" are for strength. Actually, 7 bolt mains have a 1 piece girdle that makes all the main caps a single part. The thrust bearing is left on it's own in a 6 bolt block with the outermost mains tied to their neightbors, it was even once speculated that this design helped 6 bolts resist crankwalk but that's a different topic altogether.
Can't see the rods well, are they standard Eagle H beams? For whatever reason they don't look like they are in that picture.
It has main studs installed, so you might want to double check the clearances on the block's main bores. It's usually recommended that the mains be align honed if aftermarket studs are used. I agree with Charlie, if you can swing it you should consider having a machine shop check everything. Those main studs can affect a lot of things in the bottom end. But it does look like the guy who had it before you wasn't ignorant and did it right.

280/280 cams.

Degree those cams. The head and deck have been surfaced and BC's cams aren't known to be perfectly straight up every time anyway.
