Hey guys, not sure if you saw the "Dry Carbon Fiber Wrap" I was experimenting with a couple months ago or not. Anyway, I decided recently that I wanted to create some custom CF parts and cover the others. Well I just can't do things the "Jerry Riggen" way so I started ordering. I won't even tell you how much a vacuum system is for doing this :barf:

As I've been doing a lot of custom fiber glassing I've really enjoyed it. I have a pretty stressful job and doing this work actually helps dump off the stress of the days. So when I was debating on ordering the vacuum bagging system I figured I might do some work on the side. I wouldn't do any huge parts just the smaller pieces but I'd like to see if there would be any interest in it?

Like what kind of parts? And only wraps or are you going to make molds and actual replacement parts?

We get a lot of people that decide theyre gonna produce composite parts for our cars but they all seem to fall through. So if people seem skeptical about anything actually coming, thats why.

If you can actually make something of use, not just a "looking" item, their probably would be interest in it.

Either full replacement parts or covers. Timing belt cover is a perfect example of something I'd do. Once the molds are made the rest isn't to bad. After all my equipement gets delivered I'll make some pieces for my car and post them up then start with some of your parts. I don't mind doing it becuase I'll buy another 2G so I'll use the molds later anyway.
(For the mods, I'm not trying to sell anything but if I decide to go ahead and start doing this on the side I will become a supporting vender and post this in the proper forums.) Just trying to gauge if I even want to go foward with this.

What are some things you guys would like to see?

1. Timing belt cover
2. Fuse box covers
3. Tail light delete
4. Fuel door
5. Spoiler for a 1g-1gb
6. Sunroof plug

Sunroof plug. I will rip mine out and bring it over if you need it.
Hood. Full pin on, no FG backing

Would you be able to spare it for around 3-4 weeks when I'm ready to make a mold?

Yes, if's it's in the winter I don't care because the car isn't driven. It will help you get the right contour and size etc. As for creating tabs or some sort of brackets/latches to hold it in you may need to have the car around to finish up the design. Let me know if I can help.

This is riding a close line with the no group buys/no non-vendor posting.

If you intend to make parts and sell them, you'll need to be a supporting vendor.

Alright sorry. But in all fairness I never said I was going to do this at all. Just gauging some interest.

On a side note, I just ordered 3 yards for my car. That crap is EXPENSIVE. I always wondered why they charged soooo much for cf parts. I can't wait to get my parts finished and back in the car. This thing is a blast to drive.

what parts you making?

What are the dimensions of the sunroof? Not exact, just something close so I can make sure the right size cf is on the way. I see that most shops actually only use 1 layer of cf and fiberglass the rest :notgood: Although that would really keep the price down it's still kinda pointless if you're going with the whole weight reduction thing.

What about a 2G passenger side airbage cover or a hatch/cargo cover..

Passenger side airbag is a great idea, seems like 70% of these things are all warped.

Hatch cargo cover seems to large for what I'm doing right now.

I was just thinking you know what would be cool? Like a kit you could get that replaces X amount of parts and drops weight by say X lbs. Ah, I am a dreamer. I was thinking if I could get say a cf hood + fenders + sunroof plug + many many misc parts for a set price that would be cool. Hey we could say we have stage 5 weight reduction LOL

I started receiving the parts for my vacuum bagging system today. But I also go an email from the carbon fiber company saying it's back ordered and will not ship till Thursday.

If anyone needs a carbon sunroof plug I have one. PM me if interested.
