Ok well one of my balance shaft bearings went out so i decided to pull the motor and do a mild rebuild. My plans our to bse kit, front case w oil pump, main and rod bearings, maybe new rods and pistons just depending on what my budget can afford and im sure some more stuff will come up. But this is my first engine build so i will have alot of questions and look forward to see how this build goes. Here are some pics of my progress so far.:hellyeah:

Thanks,
Bryce

cant wait to see more. good luck with your build. doing mine when i get back from deployment!

ok well i got a chance to start tearing down the engine last night. I want to take the rod bearings out now to see how worn down they are but im not sure if there is a certain way to do it. Any advice would be great. And also any other ideas of what i should check while im down here. well here are some more pics of the tear down.

Good luck, I just got done doing my rebuild, mine was way dirtier than your when I took it out.

<<<<<<<< Heres my motor now.

If its not too late, but if you reuse the rods and pistons be sure to mark what cylinder they came out of ,so they can go back in the same cylinders when that time comes.

You should be able to remove the caps.. Number them and to remove the upper half of the rod bearing use a small screwdriver Ive use a sturdy plastic ziptie as well but be EXTRA careful not to score the journal on the crank give it a nudge and it should slide around. I replace my rods mains w the motor in car. :D

yes the rods and pistons are still in the bock but i will remember to label them when i take them out. And removing the rod bearings doesnt sound that hard now. thank you.

The guy on the left is me and the guy on the right is my best friend tyler. i guess he likes to look good while working. haha

Hey if your going to get a new oil pump the old oil pump gear is great for knocking in those BSE bearing blockoffs. It fits into the block with a little bit of convincing and allows a nice surface to press against the bearing blockoff.

but please dont use a fram oil filter

I heard from a former employer whom was a redneck (so I took it w/ a grain of salt) that they disintegrate spreading shit throughout engine. Is there any truth to that?

damn boost92awd has it goin on. and nice engine pull it looks like you and your friend had some fun.

Looks like you've already got a new water pump and a fresh head, maybe the scale built up in the coolant passages could be addressed too now that you're rebuilding. Get a caustic wash, clean up the cylinders with an overbore and have it decked, it'll run as good as new.

Do yourself a favor and tape up a sheet of cardboard to cover the backside of that FMIC before you drop the engine back in.

K member looks a little slippery, oil leak?

well i got a chance tonight to go do some work on the talon. I managed to take off the crank sprocket and the entire front case. And i found something thats very comforting. I found another beace of the balance shaft bearing wrapped around the balance shaft and wont come out. haha Well the next thing ill do is pull the rod bearings and main out and take a look at them to see how bad those are. Either way im still going to replace them but im quiet intrested in what kind of shape there in. well here are some more pics of my progress

While yout in there go ahead and get new OEM rod and main bolts or some ARP's as they are not that expensive. What bearings are you going with?
