Well I just wanted to start out by saying hi to everyone and that this is my first post! Well I been looking in to getting my first DSM! I would like a 1g due to them being so cheap and fairy easy to get your hands on. Now I live in Maine and we do get a good amount of snow, I was just wondering what your options were on the GSX or GST (or equivalent to…. cause iv herd there was no GST 1g’s they might have been something else) Eclipse or Talon. I love the AWD side of the GSX but I was thinking if it all wheel drive then that’s that more u can break over the GST but I don’t know how much slower the GST is compared to the GSX. I’m sorry if u guys have already answered this w/ another newbie but any opinions would be a big help and I would take them into consideration.
Thanx a lot!:dsm:

There are 1g gs-t's, get the tsi awd or a gsx you will be happy with the awd. As far as which one being faster, they have the same motor, but you will pwn fwd off the line.

Awd defiantly.I'm betting this post gets a good amount of people fighting about whats better then a In the end everyone saying its all about your preference and goals with the carROFL well maybe not a large amount cause its 118 but maybe some.

:rocks:

Iv done my research and I know about them having same motors (4g63T) and I know about the 6 and 7 bolt and the difference... But is it true that the AWD will get the better jump off the line but are not as quick wile up to speed as the GST? For example like a highway pulls or just say at 45 or so.... Thanx again for any help LOL im just a typical newbie w/ some questions LOL!!!

Yes the gsx will get you off the line way faster then a gst.The awd have a slower top speed due to weight. And if a gst with high modifications goes to pull at 45 it will still spin the tires while the gsx just launches ahead once again LOL Gst= more of a street car/dd___Gsx=Drag car but deadly on the street also. You think about it at the launch the gsx is going to pull a good amount of distance when the guys trying to get his tires to grip.In that time the gst has to use his top end speed to catch up and close that distance so its about dead even in the end in less your running 2 miles down the highway at top speed LOL plus the awd's are much funnier. But more parts more things can break.More money they cost. That's just the way things work in this world LOL

I own both, the gsx is slower everywhere but at the drag strip, out on the highway from a 40mph pull the gst will win everytime, no supposed wheel spin to worry about, thats nonsense from someone who has never had a built gst and built gsx personally. The gst also runs somewhere like 20mph or so faster overall than a gsx. If you are using the car for snow, or for pure drag racing then the gsx might be a good bet, for daily driving or freeway pulls etc, the gst reigns supreme. So, if what you want is to have a car that you can run the lowest e.t. with at the track or you want to climb hills in the snow gsx, otherwise gst.

Alright thanx alot that helps....... Anyone know the top speed of a stock 1g GST and GSX i herd around 130 and a little less for the GSX? Just Curious...... Also why do some 2g owers put 1g BOV's on there cars :thumb::dsm:

Both GST and GSX top out at about 140 mph, but every vehicle is different. Also the stock BOV on a 2g is plastic and dosent hold boost very well, and the 1g is a great cheap replacement.

I like the all wheel drive. I have owned both and dont like the tire spinning all that much. but like one of the guys said near the top. it all depends on you wants and needs.... my FWD was a stock daily driver that i had no intentions of modifying becuase they spun enoguh stock. My AWD is a DD but i put a little bit extra into this one

Incorrect, the fwd gearing allows it to run faster.

The GS-Ts have a speed limiter on them that stops them at 135, the reason for this is the tires. From the dealer the GSX had better tires on them than the GS-T, that allowed them (GSX) to reach 140. The GST had lesser tires on them with a lower speed rating(to keep the cost down), so theres a little place on the chip that can be sniped off that gets rid of the limiter. Then it will top out at 140.

But yea get the AWD model, I have a GS-T and will most likely buy a GSX or TSi AWD sometime soon.

If you get a choice, go for the gsx man. I got a gs-t and don't get me wrong, I love my car more than my girl (hahaha). BUT I do plan on looking for a 2g tsi awd soon to start modding for a project/track car.

Actually ive had a AWD 1g modded........Now im with a 2g GST 6bolt modded......Honestly i think its what you like, when i had AWD kinda got boring after awhile the awd. I mean it didnt get boring launching and killing everyone off the line, LOL but somtimes miss spinning some tires and messing around abit ya know. i mean if i was building a just weekend track car i would go with GSX, if its your daily driver either one would be great..i love my gst butwill admit sometimes you want AWD. I also want RWD too sometimes so maybe its just me LOL.. So its just your preference. Test drive both and just get somethine your happy with.

Go for the gsx, like you said you get alot of snow it will suit you better as all year round DD. But from my experience its tough to find drivetrain, suspension parts for a gsx LOL. Id say stay away from a 1g gst, the fwd dsm trannies were terrible in the 1st gens especially in 1990 and slightly better in the 2g's. Like said before its up to you just our .02. Good luck though

i say gsx but i guess i am biased cus i have one.

and its the same arguement everytime the gsx and tsi awd guys say gsx or tsi awd and the gst tsi guys always say gst or tsi haha

Thanx Alot to everyone your a big Help when i get get one i will be shure to let ya know and thanx for the help again!

Go with the AWD. Either the GSX or the TSI. With getting a lot of snow it will be better for you and they are a lot of fun to drive. Nothing like hooking up right off of the line. I have a 90 GSX and love it athough no matter which way you go be ready to work on it. Ask anyone, if your not a mechanic you will become one. But they are well worth it and you'll love the AWD. Good luck in which ever you get.

but, if you care about is who's gonna win on the highway in a battle of fwd or awd. then you shouldn't buy either. Sorry, but street racing is just plain stupid, save it for the track. if you car about snow, then i would say awd. We get a lot of snow here in pa as well, and i love awd for it. But please, like stated before, don't base a decision off of "who can i take on the highway?"
