this just hasnt been my week

started off with a heater hose blowing, not a big deal, took a couple minutes to replace.

then the next day(tuesday) the starter takes a crap again. no biggie its under warranty still so i pulled it out.

then last night i decided to go to the store. backed out of the spot and stepped on the clutch again only for it to sputter and die. i was like WTF not thinkin that what just happened really happened i reached for the key and it sounded like a sewing machine going full speed. pulled it home and pulled the upper cover off, and hey what do ya know the belt was still tight and the cams were lined up TDC perfectly. so im guessing its missing all the teeth right around the crank pulley since its not turning the belt, so i proceed to pull the plugs and do a compression check,

1 ~45 until i stop cranking and then drops to 0
2 0
3 0
4 you guessed it, 0

Not to make light (as all save the starter failure has happened to me), but I learned the hard way as you that preventative maintenance to replace things like 17 year old rotting heater/rad hoses and periodically inspecting the TBelt tensioner/pullies/belt is a good idea ;) :dsm:

thanks but i just replaced ALL the timing pieces, both belts, all pulleys and the tensioner in april. and inspect them quite frequently as i know what can happen.

well ive been saying ive replaced everything on the car except the engine itself... guess its that time

edit: after pulling the belt its what i thought, lost all the teeth around the crank pulley.

Damn, How did the teeth get grinded off? Thats a little strange. Would that cause 0 compression?

When his crank pulley took all the teeth off his belt his cams were not turning anymore, in turn his pistons smashed into his valves causing no compression.

the cams were turning as the car was running, but as the belt went they stopped on TDC, after smashing the valves.

Time to pull the head and find out what kind of damage you've got on your hands. :thumb:

nope time to pull the motor and rebuild, never had a comp check done before but i think the rings are shot. had a hell of a time starting it last winter when it was really cold(10* - -15*) and as soon as i pushed it inside and let it sit for a half hour or so it would start right up. plus i have alot of blow by.

redoing as much as possible brand new, block and head would be only things i plan on reusing. and thats if the head isnt too damaged. the engine could possibly have 174k on it, was told it was replaced around 100k but the guy could have lied. either way its got at least 70k. and i drive it pretty hard so yeah.

was really pissed off for about the first half of the walk home but then i got to thinking, this just gives me the reason i needed to do what i want to it :rocks:

haha i feel ya!!! when i blew my stock motor i was pissed, but then i smiled because i had every reason to build up a nice longblock!

yep longblock probably with porting done, exhaust mani, turbo back exhaust, possibly a bigger turbo and injectors and no matter what it will be megasquirted, oh and a stronger timing belt!

any suggestions on a good one? this gates one only lasted 5 months... and ive always had good luck with them
