Hi all, I am thinking about modding a VW corrado and fabricating a EVO swap into a VW.
What i was wondering is what are some sources on finding out what to look for on purchaceing used parts and what common problems with this motor. I hear there are some problems with the crank. Can someone please clear this up for me and if it is a really bad issue.

Wich EVO engine??? I-X? I home you are good at fab work! I'm not one to say you can't do it... But I can tell you it isn't going to be easy, or cheap! Not to mention that your going to have a hell of a time getting the drive line to work... Whats wrong with the engine thats in it? I know for a fact that if it's the 1.8 SC... you can make a great deal of power out if!

But hey, don't let me stop you... If you pull it off, you will impress a lot of people... But too often, these ideas pretty much start and stop and just that... ideas.

I love the idea. I used to have a corrado. I really hope you pull this off. I'm not quite sure what info you are wanting though:confused:Are you talking about the evo crank?

I can tell you now that JDM Evos don't have considerable crank problems, but 2G 7-bolts made in the US do, so you should be clear if you get the Evo motor. Fabrication and extra funds will be your friends here as you may be taking on a project that may have never been stared in the eyes to date. The best of luck to you.

That would be a pretty righteous project. The absolute first thing you should do to make sure your budget isn't enormous is buy a Hollander Parts Exchange manual... It should tell you what other cars to cannibalize to help your project run smoothly...:thumb:

i think it would be the shit if you did this and what i think you are talking about is the 2g eclipse 7 bolt crankwalk

it only happens at high mileage but once you change the bearing its okay

but when you do this keep us posted

Well i am still throwing around the idea seriously.
Very impressed with the HP numbers evo's do out of the box no mods.
The 178hp VR6 engine i have now is so front heavy it is a tank the old g60 1.8sc motor i had in it was light car handeld great just not AWD and olny 158hp. I am a electriicly gifted in cars i do very well here and am not a bit afraid of convertinbg harnesses. Ive done conversions before with sucess and little to no debug after conversions. The fab looks like it would be extensive but do able. VW has a synchro AWD audi model that bolts into a corrado. So there is my rear end just need custom driveline made. Need to compare the gearing in the evo rear end to the audi one. See what is going on there if anything totally custom mount from the evo rear diff to the car. And again custom CV's and axles to go from DSM to VW.

I know it seems like allot of work BUt to make a it AWD i can buy VW powerd parts and have a bolt on swap with maby the 1.8t motor and the audi synchro Trans and diff. However out of box the 1.8t olny does 160hp.

The point to this project is a car i want to keep obviously for a very long time. Want to olny do this once and do it right the first go round. I want to use a engine setup that has high HP numbers with quality design that is stock OEM. I dont want to do any engine mods.
The goal is AWD high HP and super long lasting reliable setup. Something i can put 100k on with just regular maintniance (oil, belts, plugs) And have not a stitch of problems.

I dont know much about the EVo setup. But i can say i have seen some high milage GSt's running around with not allot of repair bills. Keep in mind i dont drive like a 15yr old. I like to play but i dont abuse my equipment. I never do burnouts.

What do you guys think. I could be easily talked into soething elese. Honda i would put in 1st choise but there are no OEM motors with serious HP#'s stock. No turbo models No AWD Turbo Models. But i love there reliability. So VW Has the stuff and would be the least amout of work but again less than 200hp OEM.. Not enough. So Mitsu seems the best option at this point.

It is so much easier to supercharge a Corrado VR6... plus that engine rules it's pretty bullet proof.. don't know why you'd go through the trouble of removing one of VW's best engines.

I almost bought a Supercharged VR6 Corrado for $7000... was mint and has a LSD

Edit* I see you have a 90... that's a g60... why don't you make the Limited 16VG60?... good for 300-400HP... if you can even find a way to put that power to the ground

runs a search at this site VWvortex.com

You'd be suprised what I've seen done there... like a 32V Northstar engine into an 83 rabbit

Being a VR6 Corrado owner- don't waste your time. If you want AWD, syncro swap. If you want power and expandability, VR6 engine with a turbo setup. Turbo setups can be done on the cheap and make decent power.

I'm in the process of gathering parts for my build as I come across deals. Basic specs:
-T04E Garrett turbo- approx 48 trim .50 A/R compressor, .84 divided T3 hotside
-8.5:1 Head spacer
-ARP head studs and rod bolts
-knockoff Tial wastegate and BOV
-Custom 3" downpipe being built by KMCfabrications
-2.5" cat-back Tech Tonics exhaust
-42lb mustang injectors
-Walbro inline 255 pump
-Water/meth system - undecided on which setup
-New clutch- undecided
-New timing chains/tensioners
-C2 motorsports chip

Plus you CANNOT beat the VR6's sexy purr, its just too irresistible.

he's got a g60... wouldn't it be easier to fit a 16v head and turbo it? He could keep the Digifant

I still like VR6's with a thick gasket and supercharger
