Not sure what section this goes in... actually was a couple days ago but I was too busy finishing up last minute stuff for the DSM shootout I didn't have time to post about it.

Went to the dyno to finish up the tune a car that has been running around the streets here all summer. Tuned it on low boost a while back on the dyno then later on high boost on the street. Now went back to the dyno to fine tune the high boost tune. This thing has been beaten on all summer like this..

Car needed new plugs, that's why the torque goes stupid.. had a shitty tach pickup with weak plugs.

Tuned on AEM EMS, by me

He's Gonna finish the season on this stock motor then pull it to build up this winter I think. will go back once more when it gets cold to see what she'll do in the cold before yanking it. I have a feeling it'll be a long time before the true limits of a stock 4G63 are proven.

Since I know it's going to be asked.. the setup is nothing fancy, just off the shelf bolt on parts properly put together with a good tune.

stock 4g63 bottom end
Intake/exhaust/FMIC/Fuel, etc, the usual
BC280 Cams
GT35R
AEM EMS

sunoco 110 fuel + a good tune
 
Sure he didn't make a pull in 3rd gear? Some DSM guys prefer to tune using 3rd over 4th.

I ask because 1000 torque 600hp?? Suuuure if it's a diesel, or he is in a lower gear.
 
6 bolt block straight out the import crate
spiking to 33 lbs falling to 31 by the end of the pull
revving to 8700 RPM
third gear - 4th gear is too much stress - they dyno the same anyways (dynojet calcs gearing automatically)
Dyno is AWD Dynojet

This is a customer of mine's car. I'll try to get some pics. The car is pretty basic, looks like nothing special, which is the best part :D

Horsepower vs Torque


1 hp = 5252 lb-ft * 1 rpm

So one horsepower is a force (a torque to be exact) of 5252 lb-ft @ 1 rpm. Now it is easy to come up with a formula for horsepower given engine rpm and torque. Say we have X lb-ft of torque @ Y rpm and we want to convert that amount of power to horsepower. The last equation tells us we can convert from (lb-ft * rpm) units to horsepower units by multiplying torque and rpm and then dividing by 5252:

power = X lb-ft * Y rpm
power = X lb-ft * Y rpm * (1 hp / (5252 lb-ft * 1 rpm))
power = (X lb-ft * Y rpm / 5252) hp
 
why'd the torque spike to 1000 in the middle of the pull?

Dynojet measures horsepower and calculates torque off that and RPM. the tach signal got lost due to weak ignition (and being an older abused pickup) hence a divide by 0 situation which results in a max torque reading.
