Last week I went to go buy my DSM (96 eagle talon tsi awd) with a 6 bolt swap already done. I had the flatbed there ready and all. It had to be towed because the waterpump had gone bad and the car wouldnt make it to my house without over heating. Now mind you, I'm 16 so my mom had to come with me to sign the title. To make a long story short. my mom wouldn't sign the title because in her word's it was a "race car" LOL and would just be headaches. So I was beat and still had to pay the tow truck guy and all. Just an extra bit of info, I'm paying for this car all by myself, I have had no mommy and daddy help with money for the car at all. Well I wasn't gonna give up easily so I did my research and found out that I only have to be 17 to title it and register it myself. I turn 17 tomorrow and am considering going back and picking up the car in a few days (assuming it has not been sold). If I do end up going through with this and buying it, I have to get my own insurance policy and pay myself. This is where it gets tough. Basically I am dumping all my money into just getting this car which in the DSM world IMO is not very smart but for the price of the car I just dont want to pass it up. I have been shopping around for insurance policy's and so far the best quote i have recieved is from Esurance for 2300. This is juts the quote I have recieved, I'm not even sure if they will carry me because i have nhad no previous driving record. Now basically my car will be sitting in my drive way for 2-3 months till i have it repaired and have money for insurance. I have been into DSM's for almost 2 years now and have done my fair share of research. I know what I'm getting myself into when it comes to owning one of these. I have an idea of what I'm going to do with this whole situation but i just wanted to hear some of your opinions. Thanks

You sound cool.......

Too bad insurance will kick your ass... just get curb'd insurance until she is running...

If your parents don't want you owning that car, they can make it hell for you to own it...

Obey your parents maybe they will pitch in for a newer maybe wrx or something... you can get 02 wrx's for friggen 14k now a days, and its a safe, awd, reliable subaru 4 door...

Since you are cool, its o.k. to milk money out of your parents for a newer wrx or something

If you get a dsm great, but at the cost of relationship troubles with parents, i would go with what they say for now

I'd reccomend that you actually went in and talked to your insurance agent. They are able to give you much better deals when your talking one on one than they are able to give you online.

I pay 450 a year for full coverage on my gsx. I'm 20 and I have the good student discount. Pretty good if you ask me.

Well if I were you I would try to get on your moms good side about this car because there will become a time were your broke and you have no other means of transportation and you will need that parent support with money and then pay them back of course. So I would make sure the water pump is the only thing wrong with it and basically just get your moms approval :thumb:

I feel like such a little kid about talking about my mom doing this and that. Basically It's impossible to get on her good side about this car, believe me I have tryed and she still is extremly against me getting it. I have a job and plan on getting a second one for sure and i know i can pay the insurance, its just gonna take a little bit. My main concern is if and when shit breaks which I know it will that i will be able to fix it. I dunno I'm still up in the air about it. Once I get some more detailed insurance information, that will decide my final decision. I live in NJ and insurance here is a bi***. 17 year old male with a turbo AWD car who is getting his own policy and isnt in my favor at all.

Yea im 17 right now myself and my car is registered in my mothers name on her insurance...Full Coverage is $77 a month....I was going to get it under my name but it would have costed me around $270 a month :notgood:

man, wait till your 18, and your insurence gets down, then see whats around. I bought my TSI when I turned 18. My first insurence on it, was 1200 full coverage. I payd that for 4 months, and then took it down to Liablity, and only have to pay 430 for 6 months, instead of 1200, Alot better deal. I feel a little less unsafe...But a dude I know bought a 11 thousand dollar, very nice V6 Camaro, 99, he bought it back in like 2001....he dident have full coverage. SO i said #### it, and dident get it the rest of the time, when I drive for 3 years, since i have no tickets or anything, Ill be set.

AWD = discount.... AWD and abs and airbags is a good thing... LOL

Extremly good news. After countlessly searching for insurance quotes. Ive decied to go with Mercury Insurance. The quote they gave was 1200 for liability. Now this may be high for some of you but considering I'm 17 with no previous driving records or credt. I consider this a damn good deal and have decided to go through with buying my car. Thanks for the input.
